DAVIS, Calif. - - UC Davis sprinter Ashley Marshall, who was a part of two school-record efforts on Saturday, and hammer thrower Sarah Hussey who had a PR at the Hornet Invitational, were named the Big West Female Track and Field Female Athletes of the Week, respectively, on Tuesday.
It marked the third straight week the Aggie women's team has swept each award.
Marshall, a sophomore from Moreno Valley, Calif., ran 24.02 seconds in the 200-meter dash at the Hornet Invitational, breaking the school-record of 24.04 set by teammate Melanise Chapman just one race earlier. Chapman entered the day with the school record of 24.09 before the pair put forth outstanding individual efforts.
Marshall and Chapman then joined forces as part of the Aggies' second-place 4x100 relay that was timed in a school-record 45.26 seconds. It was more than a half-second faster than the previous UC Davis record. Both the 200 and relay times lead the Big West Conference.
Hussey was exceptional in the hammer, finishing fourth at Sacramento State on Saturday with a PR of 172 feet, 6 inches, breaking her previous best of 166-feet set last year. It moved her two spots to No. 5 on the Aggies' career leaders list and is 26th in the NCAA West Region.
UC Davis is off this week because of final exams but will return to competition next week, traveling to meets at Stanford and San Francisco State.
