STANFORD, Calif. - After a nearly three-week break from action, the majority of the UC Davis men's and women's track and field teams get back to competition with a busy weekend at the Stanford Invitational and the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.

Both meets run Friday and Saturday and feature more than a 1,000 competitors each. The Stanford Invitational is annually one of the largest meets in the country and features high-level collegiate and open competitors. There are also high school sections. Friday's portion of the meet features a whole slate of distance races that will held late into the evening. Sprints, hurdles and field events will be held on both days.

The San Francisco State Distance Carnival has grown since its inception in 2008, offering strong competition for athletes that didn't get into the Stanford Invitational. Jumps and distance races will take place on Friday while throws, jumps, sprints hurdles and relays will be contested on Saturday.

The bulk of the UC Davis teams have not competed since the Aggie Open on Mar. 15 at Woody Wilson Track. Final exams took place the following week with some sprinters finding action last weekend at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational.

The weekend begins a busy stretch of meets for UC Davis which will compete at the Mondo Mid-Major Invitational at Sacramento State and at the ASU Sun Angel Invitational next week. The Aggies will be in action through the rest of the month and into May heading into the Big West Championships at Woody Wilson Track next month.

The UC Davis men enter the weekend with five marks that rank among the top 50 in NCAA Division I. On the track, Alex Grigoriev is 17th in the 800-meter run (1:50.33), and Trevor Halsted (14:17.43) and Brandon Pugh (14:24.68) are 14th and 27th, respectively, in the 5,000.

Brandon Greenberg (56 feet, 5.75 inches) is ranked 45th in the shot put while Chase Dariso (48-6.25) is 48th in the triple jump.

The women's team has seven marks, including two relays, that are currently in the top 50. Ashley Marshall, a three-time Big West Track Athlete of the Week winner so far this season, is sixth (11.32) and 21st (23.75), respectively, in the 100 and 200. Cekarri BNixon is 24th in the 400 (54.57) and Raquel Lambdin is 31st in the 800 (2:10.18).

A pair of 4x100 relays for UC Davis are also ranked, topped by Nixon, Marshall, Leslie Reed and Kellie Grigg ranking 40th (45.50). In the field, Praise Adesida is ranked 42nd in the shot put (48-6.25).
