DAVIS, Calif. -- UC Davis's junior jumper Steven Childs scored his second Big West Conference Field Athlete of the Week award of the 2018 season, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon, after his first-place finish in the men's long jump at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Team Challenge on Mar. 31.
The Canyon County, Calif., native dominated the competition in the men's long jump with his 7.75m/25-5.25 leap, which measured 0.35 meters farther than the second-place finisher from Cornell.
This mark not only replaced his previous personal best of 7/45m/24-9.00 set earlier this year at Sacramento State's Hornet Invitational, but it also placed him eight inches ahead of the runner-up jumper in the Big West Conference for this event, bumped him up to the No. 2 spot in the UC Davis record book, and scored him a No. 14 rank in the NCAA's.
Aside from his winning long jump at the Titan Team Challenge, Childs also finished in fifth in the men's 100 with a time of 10.79, and helped the Aggie 4x100 relay team finish their race in second with a time of 40.89 seconds, the fourth fastest time in Aggie history.
