DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis hurdler Kayla Carter, who posted PR's in a pair of events at last week's prestigious Sun Angel Classic at Arizona State, was named the Big West Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Wednesday morning.
Carter, a senior from Woodbridge, Calif., finished eighth in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.81 seconds, her fastest time with fully automatic timing and just the second under 14 seconds in program history. The mark, which beat her previous-best of 14.01 seconds set last year, is tops in the Big West this season.
She added another outstanding mark in the 400 hurdles, finishing third at Arizona State in 1:00.70, slightly faster than the 1:00.73 she ran last season. Carter is currently ranked second in the Big West for the long hurdles. She also solidified her position on the Aggie's all-time lists for those two events where she is second in the 100 hurdles and third in the 400 hurdles.
Carter is the eighth winner of the Big West's Track and Field Athletes of the Week honors this season.
UC Davis returns to action this weekend when it travels to Sacramento State for the Mondo Mid-Major Invitational beginning Thursday.
