WALNUT, Calif. - After traveling for meets in the Bay Area and at Arizona State the last two weeks - along with a meet closer to home at Sacramento State - the UC Davis men's and women's track and field teams will return to the road for meets in Southern California on Friday and Saturday.

UC Davis will have 40 entries for the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays, one of the largest track and field meets in the country, and will compete primarily on Friday with several of the Aggies heading over to Long Beach State on Saturday for the 20th annual Beach Invitational. That meet will be held at Cerritos College.

For the Aggies, the meets provide another good weekend of high-caliber competition as they prepare for the upcoming Big West Championships which will be held for the first time at UC Davis in mid-May. Mt. SAC offers both collegiate/open events along with invitational sections. Ashley Marshall, the 2013 Big West Female Track Athlete of the Year, will race in both the 100- and 200-meter invitational races while senior standout Alycia Cridebring will face an elite field in the 5,000 invitational.

The women will also showcase their 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Cekarri Nixon (200, 400) and Leslie Reed (100, 200, 400) are among the Aggie sprinters that will compete while hurdler Kellie Griggs (100H, 400H) - who won conference track athlete of the week honors on Tuesday - will also race. Praise Adesida, another conference award winner for UC Davis this week after winning the shot put at Sacramento State last weekend, is entered in both the shot put and discus.

On the men's side, Nathan Strum - the third Aggie to be honored by the Big West on Tuesday after posting a big win in the mile (4:01.39) at Arizona State on Saturday - is entered in the 800 and 1,500 while thrower Brandon Greenberg is in the shot put after his PR (56 feet, 10 inches) at ASU. UC Davis will have its sprint corps of Marcus Johnson, Kaio Sena, Sava Boyadjiev and Basil Okoroike in action as they chase the school's 4x100 record. The quartet went 40.82 last weekend, ranking it second all-time at UC Davis.

Many of the same Aggies who will be at Mt. SAC will venture closer to the ocean for the meet at Long Beach State on Saturday. The second day of competition will provide them further training for the multi-day championship meets that are straight ahead in May.

The all-collegiate meet, which has more than 3,000 entries, will run in earnest on Saturday beginning at 8:15 a.m. and conclude in the evening.
