TRACK & FIELD: Competed in five meets as a freshman... Ran 5,000 three times, including Big West Conference meet (25th)... Best 5K mark was 14:56.79 at Brutus Hamilton Invitational.

SANTA CLARA HS '08: Placed 7th (15:38) among Division II runners at Central Coast Section cross country championship in 2007... Finished 57th (16:40) at CIF state meet... Also a CCS finalist in 3,200 during track season... Three-time Santa Clara Valley Athletic League champion (twice in track, one in cross country).

PERSONAL: Born in Ethiopia, moving to U.S. in 2002... Majoring in chemical engineering & material science... Parents are Andarge Belachew and Ehite Ayele... Older brother, Desalgen, also attends UC Davis... By the time he's 30, hopes to move to Jamaica.
