Aggies gear up for Big West Championships

UC Davis goes in search of second conference crowns on both sides

2009: Placed 30th overall at Big West Conference Championships and was team's No. 5 runner (87th overall) at NCAA West Regional... Also competed at the Doc Adams Open Oct. 3 and the Bronco Invitational Oct. 17.

2008: Competed in six meets, scoring team points in each... Finished 21st at Big West Conference meet, then was team's No. 3 runner (65th overall) at NCAA West Regional... Other strong finishes were 8th at Aggie Open and 48th (among 28 teams) at Stanford Invite.

2007: Raced in three meets as a true freshman, placing 37th in season opener at Chico State.

TRACK & FIELD: Placed 6th in 3,000 steeplechase (9:19.97) at 2008 Big West Conference meet as a freshman... Had team's top three times in that event, including 9:15.87 at UC Irvine's Steve Scott Invitational... Also ran open 3K (8:29.97) and 5K (15:39.02).

MARIA CARRILLO HS '07: Placed 22nd (16:12) at CIF state cross country meet as a senior... Finished as North Coast Section runner-up as a senior (15:26)... Team won section titles in each of his junior and senior seasons... Won North Bay League and NCS Redwood Empire titles in 3,200 during track season... Set PR times of 9:25 in 3,200; 4:31 in 1,600... Graduated summa cum laude, with 4.5 grade-point average.

PERSONAL: Born in Santa Rosa, Calif.... Majoring in evolution, ecology and biodiversity... Parents are Greg & Kristin Thigpen... Career highlight was scoring at the NCAA West Regional Championships... Chose UC Davis for its strength in sciences.
