Men’s 8K Results — Team and Individual
RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Graduate transfer Thomas Madden, who made his UC Davis cross country debut this morning, finished fifth overall in the men’s 8K, while sophomore Sarah Anderson crossed the line in 27th in the women’s 6K on Saturday at the 37th annual UC Riverside Invitational.
The women’s squad raced first and finished in ninth place with a team score of 193 points. The Aggies outdistanced three of six Big West Conference teams at this event: Long Beach State (327), UC Irvine (404), and CSUN (426). In 2015, UC Davis also outdistanced UC Santa Barbara, UC Riverside, and Cal State Fullerton, the other three Big West Conference teams there, but this year they placed in fourth (143), sixth (162), and eight (186), respectively.
Anderson finished her race with a time of 21:06.0 to start the scoring for the Aggies, while junior Megan MacGregor placed immediately after, stealing the 28th place spot with a time of 21.09.9. Sophomore Julia Lemak, who won the individual title in the women’s 4K at this year’s Aggie Open, finished her race in 39th place with a time of 21:29.3, while sophomores Haley Adel and Mandy Wainfan finished in 49th (21:44.7) and 55th (21.52.9), respectively, to round out the team score. Freshman Alexis Ballman finished with a time of 23:18.1 (100th), and sophomore Lauren Powers concluded the squad’s participation at the invite with a time of 23:24.2 (103rd).
The men’s squad finished in seventh place with a team score of 185 points. UC Davis placed higher than four of the six Big West Conference teams present: UC Irvine (196), UC Riverside (264), CSUN (286), and Long Beach State (324). The last time the Aggies were here, the men also outdistanced Cal State Fullerton, but this year they finished in third (130).
Madden crossed the line with a time of 24:09.0, while junior Jordy Ceja was the second runner on the men’s squad to complete the course, finishing in 13th place with a time of 24:40.4. Graduate student Jon Horvath finished in 25th (25:01.9), freshman Ryman Crone placed in 69th (25:58.5), and junior transfer Kiernan Elam placed in 81st (26:24.2) to round out the team score for the UC Davis. Anthony Sanchez was one second behind Elam, placing in the 82nd spot with a time of 26:25.6, nine seconds faster than his previous personal best 8K time.
The Aggies will have one week off from competition before returning on Sept. 30 for the Capitol Cross Challenge in Sacramento, Calif.
