STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Priscilla Moreno finished an impressive 10th at the Stanford Cross Country Invitational on Saturday in the women's 6-kilometer invitational race, leading UC Davis to a fifth-place finish at the Stanford Golf Course.

Jorge Murillo was 29th overall for the Aggie men, who finished in sixth place in their 8-kilometer invitational. The host Cardinal won both the men's and women's races which were run on the Stanford Golf Course.

Moreno, who captured the season-opening Aggie Open on Sept. 11, was timed in 22 minutes, 20 seconds, leading six Aggies who placed among the top 48 runners. Kim Conley was 22nd in 22:54, Michelle Solone was 27th in 23:02 and Kelsey Kaiser was 36th in 23:11. Lorin Scott (46th, 23:24) and Staci Stacionis (48th, 23:28), also placed in the top 50.

"We defenitely had some good performances today," said head coach Jason Jaques. "It was a warm day and conditions were on the difficult side but Priscilla Moreno ran a very good, consistent race."

The Aggie women scored 141 points for their top-five finish.

Murrilo was the top finisher for the UC Davis men, who scored 186 points and in sixth place. Murrillo, also a winner at the Aggie Open three weeks ago, covered the 8K course in 24:50 to lead the Aggies. Senior Will Merchad was 41st in 25:15, Tim Helms was one spot behind that in 25;16, Patrick Parsel was 57th in 25:37 and Chris Pecot was 65th in 25:50.

"The guys were fairly conservative, which was the game plan we wanted to go with," Jaques said. "They really worked the second and third miles a little bit and then paid a price on the hill on the backside but they came home strong."

UC Davis also had runners in the non-scored races with Carolyn Menard finishing seventh in the women's 5K in 20:01 while Dylan Haas led UC Davis in the men's 8K with a time of 27:55.

UC Davis returns to action next weekend at the Willamette Invitational.
