STANFORD, Calif. - Trevor Ehlenbach and Amar Dholakia finished 38th and 39th, respectively on Saturday morning at the Stanford Invitational, helping the UC Davis men's cross country team finish eighth overall.

The Aggie women, paced by freshmen Rianna Goins who was 54th and Clara MacLeod who was 59th, UC Davis finished 12th at the meet that was contested on the Stanford Golf Course.

Eleven of the 12 competitors for the Aggie men and women are underclassmen and Wartenburg said Saturday's meet provided good experience for them against elite competition early in their careers.

"We took a young group over to Palo Alto and put them in positions where they were forced into scoring and contributing roles," he said. "Every athlete should have taken away a positive aspect as well as a good lesson learned from today's races."

Ehlenbach was timed in 26 minutes, 39 seconds in the men's 8-kilometer race while Dholakia was right behind in 26:41. Other Aggie finishers included Luke Dorman (48th, 27:27), Miguel Aceves (53rd, 27:36) and Patrick Fitzgerald (63rd, 28:01).

Goins led UC Davis in just her second collegiate race, finishing 54th in 23:46 over the women's 6-kilometer course. MacLeod, part of three freshmen who led the Aggies, was 59th in 23:46. Olivia Goins (60th, 23:47), Katie Ott (63rd, 23:56), Nicole Lane (24:05), Julia Yang (74th, 24:22) and Kayla Knapp (79th, 24:28).

Stanford's Erik Olson (24:25) captured the men's race while the Cardinal's Jessica Tonn (21:00) won the women's. Stanford captured team titles in both events.

UC Davis will return to action next weekend when it participates in the NCAA West Region Preview at Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento.

"We look forward to putting most of remaining runners out in the course at Haggin Oaks six days from now when we will get a more complete picture of how we stack up in the West Region," said Wartenburg.
