DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis junior Arran Rogerson led the men's cross country team to a second-place showing in the eight-kilometer race, and freshman Chelsea Mumby led a group of four women runners in their 6K race during the Doc Adams Open at Putah Creek Course Country Course Saturday morning.

The men finished just seven points behind Stanford with a score of 58, while the women ran only four runners and did not record a team finish. The Cardinal claimed the women's race with 27 points to sweep both events on the day. Sacramento State finished just three points behind in the women's race.

Rogerson led a young Aggie contingent in the men's race with a fifth-place time of 25:34.20. He was followed in the top 10 by fellow junior Tyler Rattray, who finish 10th in 26:04.10.

Junior Kyle Suarez finished 13th in 26:04.10 and sophomore Chris Harland-Dunaway followed in 14th place (26:04.90) to give the Aggies a total of four runners in the top 15. Sophomore Federico Martinez closed the scoring in 21st with his time of 26:20.20.

"In the past week we talked about our guys needing to get out of their comfort zone a little and pick a spot to engage and commit to racing, and we definitely did that today," said Aggie head coach Drew Wartenburg. "As a group they worked with each other much better in terms of communicating and used that to push each other along. It was a step forward for this young group of runners today."

For the women, Mumby put together her best collegiate race as the team's top finisher with her 16th-place time of 23:26.40. Fellow freshman Sam Kearney followed in 19th place at 23:43.10.

Sophomore Jenna Gailey saw the first action of her career and finished 26th in 25:07.80. Freshman Anna Smidebush closed things out in 28th place at 25:24.10.

"Two of our freshman had personal- and course-bests out here, so we're pleased with that," Wartenburg siad. "We didn't worry about how we finished as a team today. The emphasis was focused on putting together some good individual performances and having that translate into a positive team outcome."

UC Davis takes the next week off to train before returning to competition on Oct. 18. The Aggies will send two different squads to the Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara and NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.
