LOUISVILLE - Junior Sarah Sumpter finished 12th overall, clocking in at 20:15.0, to highlight the UC Davis women's cross country team's tenth-place performance on Saturday at the NCAA Div. I Pre-Nationals at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park in Louisville.

The Aggies placed ahead of several strong teams, including Kentucky which is receiving votes in the USTFCCCA Div. I poll. UC Davis finished with 320 points, just 12 points back of ninth-place Florida, another top-30 team nationally.

Florida State, the No. 1 ranked team in the country, won the team title with 72 points while Oregon was second with 87 points. Michigan (141), Georgetown (163) and Texas (184) completed the top five.

Sumpter was UC Davis' top finisher in a 6K race that featured 265 competitors and was followed by Alycia Cridebring who was 29th overall in a time of 20:42.8.

"We beat some good teams today to take home a tenth-place result, but we fell short of the goal with which we approached this meet," said head coach Drew Wartenburg. "We still have to get off the line and into the race more aggressively, and we will also look to close gaps in our scoring group over the course of the month to come."

Katie Fry was the Aggies' third scorer, coming in 68th overall with a time of 21:15.9 while Lauren Wallace and freshman Christine Hoffman came in 104th and 107th, respectively. Wallace clocked in at 21:37.2 while Hoffman recorded a time of 21:38.6 in her first 6K race as an Aggie.

Raquel Lambdin's time of 21:56.5 resulted in a 144th-place finish while Kristine Lozoya rounded out the Aggie scoring with a time of 22:09.6 to finish 168th.

"Sarah Sumpter paced the women's squad, working through the field for a solid 12th-place finish" said Wartenburg. "Getting a look at the national course was a good experience in the event that we send Aggies back to Louisville in late November."

UC Davis will now turn its attention to the Big West Conference Championships on Oct. 27 in Riverside, Calif.
