SUNNYVALE, Calif. - Led by sophomore Shannon Harcus, the UC Davis women's cross country team combined for a 14th-place finish at the Bronco Invitational at Baylands Regional Park in Sunnyvale, Calif.
Harcus finished the 5K invitational race with a time of 17:57.1 - breaking the 18-minute mark for the first time ever - and was 36th overall.
Hilary Teaford and Melinda Zavala came in next for the Aggies, finishing only two seconds apart from each other. Teaford crossed the line in a time of 18:45.2 while Zavala, making her UC Davis debut, clocked in at 18:47.4.
The UC Davis men were represented by freshmen Joseph Rivera, Trevor Ehlenbach and Diego Escobar in the 8K invitational. Rivera led the trio with his time of 26:10.9. He was followed by Ehlenbach who crossed in a time of 27:01.7 while Escobar clocked in at 27:47.2 as both competed in the 8K distance for the first time this year.
Long Beach State claimed the women's team title with 94 points, while Stanford won the men's championship with 38 points.
A second contingent of Aggie runners will compete at the NCAA Pre-Nationals Invitational on Sunday in Terre Haute, Ind.
