TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The UC Davis women's squad finished 15th in the 6K "blue" race while the men's team was 30th in the 8K "white" race at the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course Saturday morning. Sophomore Sarah Sumpter led all Aggie scorers with a 34th place finish in a time of 21:21.9. On the men's side, Jon Peterson was the top runner for UC Davis with a 68th place finish in a time of 24:44.5.

The UC Davis women placed higher than any other Big West team at the meet. Colorado took the overall team title with a total score of 94 points.

Abbey Gallaher was the second-highest finisher for the Aggie women as she placed 70th with a time of 21:52.0. Caitlin Fitzgerald was 89th overall, clocking in at 21:59.2. Senior Alison Stoakley placed 115th and recorded a time of 22:12.6 while Sarah Tusting finished 160th with a time of 22:46.4.

Rounding out the Aggie women was Krista Drechsler who had a time of 22:55.2 and sophomore Kristina Taylor who recorded a time of 24:05.9.

 

 

On the men's side, Stanford won the overall team title as three Cardinal runners placed in the top-10.

Kindu Ejigu finished 135th with a time of 25:32.7. Scott Himmelberger clocked in at 25:46.7 to place 157th. Matt Sartori finished with a time of 26:02.1 while junior Jonathan Sees had a final time of 26:05.7. Ben DeLand recorded a time of 26:48.2.

UC Davis' Kyle Suarez competed in the 8K men's open race where he finished 57th out of 111 total runners with a time of 26:49.8.

The Aggies will next compete at the Big West Championships Oct. 31 in Riverside, Calif.
