Zavala, Neill Lead Aggies at Doc Adams Open

DAVIS, Calif. - Melinda Zavala finished fourth overall in the women's 6K while Eric Neill was the Aggies' top finisher in the men's 8K as the UC Davis men's and women's cross country teams hosted the Doc Adams Open at the Putah Creek Reserve Course in Davis.

All seven Aggie women finished in the top 20 on their own home course, finishing second overall by just four points to Sacramento State.

Zavala's time of 21:48 was the top Aggie time on the women's side as she improved on her previous 6K time, set at the Stanford Invitational, by 33 seconds.. She was followed by Anna Welsh who clocked in at 22:06 to finish eighth overall. Welsh dropped 33 seconds off of her previous 6K top time.

Julia Yang and Venus Shabgahi finished tenth and 11th, respectively. Yang recorded a time of 22:15 while Shabgahi finished just two seconds back at 22:17. Hilary Teaford came in 13th in a time of 22:26 while Erika Barr was 16th overall and Katie Ott followed in 17th place. Nicole Aha was the final Aggie finisher, crossing the line in a time of 22:44.

 

 

On the men's side, Neill's 8K time of 25:40 was nearly a minute faster than his previous 8K time of 26:39.5 set at the Big West Conference Championships last weekend. He finished in 22nd overall to lead the UC Davis men to a sixth-place finish.

Neill was followed by Nick Ratto who was 27th in a time of 25:44 while Patrick Fitzgerald was 30th, clocking in at 25:59. Miguel Aceves was 32nd in a time of 26:03.

Trevor Ehlenbach and Joseph Rivera rounded out the Aggie scoring, finishing 41st and 44th, respectively. Ehlenbach clocked in at 26:48 while Rivera finished in a time of 27:24.

UC Davis will travel to Seattle to compete in the NCAA West Regional meet on Nov. 9.
