DAVIS, Calif. -- UC Davis senior Olivia Goins finished third overall to pace a group of three teammates in the top 10 on Saturday morning, highlighting the Aggies' performance at the 2016 Doc Adams Open at the Putah Creek Reserve Course in Davis, Calif.
Goins covered the 6K course in a time of 22:25.8 to finish two spots behind former UC Davis standout Christine Hoffmann, who won the women's race with a time of 21:55.6 -- her fastest 6K time of the season, beating her former top time of 22:39.8 from the Capital Cross Challenge in Sacramento back on Oct. 1.
Junior Brynna Thigpen also posted a top-five finish, crossing in a time of 22:44.9 to log her best finish of the year in fifth, and was followed by senior Clara MacLeod in sixth (22:53.0) and freshman Emily Antonino in 10th (23:56.1).
On the men's side, Senior Luke Dorman (26:12.3) and junior Jesus Salas (27:41.1) ran unattached, finishing 13th and 22nd, respectively, while juniors Ryan Dimick and Anthony Sanchez did not finish.
The bulk of the Aggie men's and women's teams return to the course next week, making the short jaunt back across the Causeway to compete at the NCAA West Regionals at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento.
Earlier this year, UC Davis got a preview of the course at the Capital Cross Challenge back on Oct. 1, with both the men and women's teams finishing fifth. Individually, sophomore Jordy Ceja led the way for the men, crossing the line in 12th place (24:10.3), while senior Hannah Kirkegaard ended the day eighth (21:06.6).
