SACRAMENTO -- UC Davis sophomore Jordy Ceja was the first across the line to lead the men's team, while freshman Kristen Leung led a trio of newcomers atop the Aggies' scoring group on Friday morning, as the UC Davis cross country teams finished among the top 20 at the NCAA West Regionals at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento.

The women's team finished 17th overall, while the men ended the day in 19th, behind perennial power Stanford, which swept both competitions with totals of 71 and 75 points, respectively. Washington's Amy-Eloise Neale took home individual honors on the women's side, while Oregon's Edward Cheserek was first across the line in the men's competition.

Ceja posted the best finish of any Aggie individual on the day, covering the men's 10K course in a time of 30:39.0 to finish 48th out of a field of 193 runners. The Panorama City, Calif., native shaved more than three seconds off his time at last year's NCAA West Regional in Seattle when he finished 121st overall with a time of 33:44.9.

Freshman Zachary Katzman was the next UC Davis runner across the line in a time of 32:05.3 in his collegiate 10K debut, while newcomer Jon Horvath was next with a time of 32:16.6. Freshmen Salem Bouhassoun (32:33.6) and Charlie Pope (32:47.4) completed a youthful Aggie scoring group, while junior Oliver Abundez-Dominguez rounded out the UC Davis pack with a time of 33:55.9.

On the women's side, it was a fast day on the course for the Aggies, who were led by three freshmen first across the line for UC Davis. All six student-athletes in Saturday's meet finished with season-best times on the course, led by newcomer Leung, who posted a time of 21:23.4 to finish 83rd overall.

Freshmen Haley Adel (21:37.2) and Sarah Anderson (21:40.4) were close behind in 100th and 105th, respectively, out of the 235-woman field, while seniors Nicole Lane (21:49.0) in 114th and Hannah Kirkegaard (21:55.9) in 124th rounded out the scoring group. Sophomore Megan MacGregor was the Aggies' final finisher in 129th, crossing in a time of 21:58.3.

For Lane, her time was just two seconds off her career best 6K cross country time of 21:47.2 set at the 2014 WCC Preview, and 10 seconds faster than her previous season best set earlier this year on the very same course at the Capital Cross Challenge. MacGregor also set a career-best time on Friday morning, also topping her previous mark of 22:12.5 set over the Haggin Oaks course at the Capital Cross Challenge earlier this season.
