Trevor Halsted, who ranks third on UC Davis' all-time list for the 5,000-meter run, was named recently to his second straight Capital One Academic All-District VIII team for men's cross country and track and field, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Halsted, a junior from Davis, earned the distinction after continuing to maintain his perfect 4.00 GPA in mechanical engineering. He was just one of 11 winners from District VIII, which includes NCAA Div. I schools along the west coast and neighboring states. Halsted's credentials were also put forth for Academic All-America consideration. Those awards will be announced this month.
Halsted highlighted his junior season on the track by placing his name high on the all-time list for the 5K, finishing in 14 minutes, 14.05 seconds at the Stanford Invitational. He also made his mark on the 3K ledger when he went 8:19.39 at the Cal Opener in March to move into fourth-place all-time. Halsted capped his season by scoring third-place points at the Big West Championship in the 1,500 (3:48.12).
His cross country season featured a second-place finish as the Aggie Open and an eighth-place performance at the Big West Championships. The latter marked his second straight all-conference honor.
Halsted was also UC Davis' winner of the 2012 Big West Men's Scholar-Athlete Award.
