DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis junior Trevor Halsted has been named a Capital One Academic All-America Division I third-team member for track and field and cross country, adding to the All-District accolades he earned earlier, it was announced on Thursday.
Halsted is a 2012 graduate of Davis High School who has excelled both academically and athletically at UC Davis. He carries a 4.00 GPA in mechanical engineering in the classroom and is an All-Big West honoree for both cross country and track and field.
His academic achievements put him in great company on the Academic All-America teams. The average GPA of the 15 members of the men's first-team is 3.85 while 11 of the 45 student-athletes overall own GPAs of at least 4.00.
Halsted has been an integral member of both the cross country and track teams. He opened his fall season in cross country with a runner-up finish at the Aggie Open and then helped cap it with an eighth-place performance at the Big West Championships. In the spring, his third-place showing in the 1,500-meter run at the Big West Championships at UC Davis earned him another all-conference honor.
He's ranked among the top 10 individuals on the Aggies' all-time list for the 3,000 and 5,000 events. Halsted's overall contributions as an Aggie student-athlete helped him earn distinction as UC Davis' winner of the 2012 Big West Men's Scholar-Athlete Award.
