Members of the UC Davis men's and women's cross country teams will travel to the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind. Saturday while others will head to the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale, Calif.

ABOUT THE PRE-NATIONALS MEET
A total of 147 teams will compete at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course Saturday... The field includes eight of the top 10 nationally ranked men's teams and seven of the top 10 nationally ranked women's teams... The course in Terre Haute, Ind. is the same course where the 2009 NCAA Championships will be run in November... Gates open at 9:00 a.m. ET Saturday with the first of six races.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH WARTENBURG
On the weekend goals: "We'll have a better idea of what we're up against this weekend. One of the things you're trying to do is beat teams that outrank you. On the men's and women's side, we'll be looking to creep inside the top-10 in our respective races."
On the feel of the meet: "It's essentially a dress rehearsal for the national meet and over the years it's become the best opportunity for teams to gather in one spot and look at folks from other regionas who are potential national qualifiers. The added bonus is that it's run on the same course as the national meet." On using this meet to prepare for NCAA Championships: "Everything from travel logistics to the approach to the race is an opportunity to go through the motions. It's a large and deep field and our runners will be putting themselves right out there."
On using the three-week break in between meets to prepare: "We were able to go back in the lab and structure some workouts that would prepare us to race well. We rehearsed a lot of pack running since the field is so large on both sides. It was nice to train without that interruption that races sometimes bring. We were able to just keep our heads down."

ABOUT THE SANTA CLARA BRONCO INVITATIONAL
The Bronco Invitational will be the largest meet on the West Coast this weekend... The Women's Invitational 5K event will begin at 9:45 a.m. PT and will feature Fresno State, Cal, Nevada, Sacramento State, Stanford, UC Davis, and San Diego... The Men's Invitational 8K begins at 11:15 am PT and includes Boise State, Cal, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, Stanford, UC Davis and the University of San Francisco.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH WARTENBURG
On the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational: "We've talked about the fact that specifically this year the Bronco Invite is a really quality field. It's probably the biggest meet on the West Coast this weekend. The group will include a number of folks who are looking to earn a spot at the conference meet in two weeks. There is no "B" meet this week. Everyone will have some really good racing on their hands."

RESULTS AND RECAPS
UC Davis had a break from racing action last weekend... The Aggies hosted the Doc Adams Open Saturday Oct. 3... Kyle Suarez led the men to a first place finish in the 8K event with a second-place time of 25:24.8... The women did not score any team points as they had only four women compete, but three of the four runners finished in the top ten... Sophomore Kristina Taylor clocked in at 22:04.6 to finish third.
