DAVIS, Calif. -- As the 2016 season winds down, the UC Davis men's and women's cross country teams will host its final home meet of the season this weekend, returning to the Putah Creek Reserve Course for the annual Doc Adams Open on Saturday (Nov. 5).
The women's 6K will kick things off at 10 a.m. in Davis, Calif., with the men's 8K race to follow at 10:40 a.m. Results will be posted to UCDavisAggies.com as soon as possible following the conclusion of the meet.
With the NCAA West Regional meet just a week away, the bulk of the Aggies' squad will take the weekend off, continuing to train for the championships on Friday (Nov. 11) in Sacramento, Calif. However, that doesn't mean that UC Davis won't be represented this weekend in its home finale, sending four men and four women to compete on its home course.
Alongside runners from Chico State, Saint Mary's, and a field of unattached runners, the Aggie men are scheduled to send freshmen Xolan Brown and Fenn Hoppe, along with juniors Ryan Dimick and Anthony Sanchez, to toe the line, while the foursome of Emily Antonino, Olivia Goins, Clara MacLeod, and Brynna Thigpen will represent the UC Davis women's squad.
Brown is fresh off an appearance at last week's Big West Conference Championships, where he finished 56th overall in a time of 28:16.1 over a damp course in Honolulu, helping the Aggies post a sixth-place finish as a team. Saturday will mark the third straight start for the Loma Linda, Calif., native, who posted an 8K best time of 26:50.0 at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Oct. 15. Meanwhile, Hoppe (26:08.9), Sanchez (26:34.9), and Dimick (27:24.0), are all also coming off season-best times set at the Bronco Invitational, helping the Aggies to a 10th-place finish as a squad.
On the women's side, Thigpen will also be making her third consecutive start after finishing 45th at the Big West Championships and helping UC Davis to a second-place finish as a team. Thigpen covered the course in Hawai'i in a time of 23:50.9 in her cross country championship debut, and has a season-best 6K time of 21:51.5 set in Sunnyvale, Calif., at the Bronco Invitational. The three remaining Aggie women will also be making their first appearances since the Bronco Invite after joining forces with teammate Sarah Anderson to finish 15th as a team at the meet.
