DAVIS, Calif. -- The race for berths in next week's NCAA Championships for the UC Davis men's and women's cross country teams begins this weekend, as the Aggies travel to the Pacific Northwest for the 2015 NCAA West Regionals hosted by the University of Washington at the Jefferson Park Golf Course in Seattle, Washington.

Consisting of the west region's best, 32 men's teams and 37 women's squads will compete beginning on Friday, Nov. 13, at Noon with the women's 6K race followed by the men's 10K at 1 p.m. The Jefferson Park Golf Course will host the regionals for the first time since 2012 -- a season that saw the Aggie women tie their best Division I finish, ending the day in sixth, while the men crossed the line in 15th.

The top two teams, plus the top four individuals not on a qualifying team, as long as they finish among the top 25, advance to the NCAA Championships to be held in Louisville, Kentucky, on Nov. 21. Saturday's regional is one of nine across the country that will automatically qualify 18 teams and 36 individuals for each gender. In addition, 13 teams and two individuals will be selected as at-large bids by an NCAA subcommittee on Saturday.

Since making the jump to the Division I level, the UC Davis women have posted five top-10 finishes in eight seasons at the NCAA Regionals, while the men posted their best finish in ninth-place during the 2010 meet in Springfield, Ore. Individually, the Aggies have had an all-region award winner in each of the last seven seasons, with seven individuals honored on the women's side and five on the men's.

The Aggies enter the meet ranked No. 15 in the region on the men's side and are unranked on the women's, the latter battling seven Pac-12 teams among the top 15 and Big West rivals Cal Poly (No. 7) and UC Santa Barbara (No. 12). Stanford is the top-ranked team in the region on the men's side with Oregon leading the way on the women's.

Coming off a pair of third-place finishes at the Big West Conference Championships on Halloween, the Aggies will send a contingent of eight men and 10 women to Seattle this weekend, looking to improve on an 11th-place (women) and 19th-place (men) at last year's regionals held in Stanford. Then-junior Christine Hoffmann, who finished second at the Big West championships two weeks earlier, earned all-region honors with her 23rd-place finish, while senior Amar Dholakia was 86th on the men's side to pace UC Davis.

The Aggies are scheduled to send seniors Dholakia, Patrick Fitzgerals, Trevor Halsted, Cody Nguyen, Nick Ratto, and Jordon Rushing, to Washington, along with junior Luke Dorman, and freshman Jordy Ceja. Halsted led UC Davis to its best team finish since 2013, picking up his third career All-Big West honor by crossing the line in ninth place with a time of 24:30.94 -- the fourth time in four 8K races this season that he broke the 25-minute mark.

On the women's side, Hoffmann and senior Erika Barr will be joined by classmates Katie Fry and Nicole Lane, juniors Rianna Goins, Hannah Kirkegaard, and Clara MacLeod, as well as freshmen Muna Alhamad, Natalie Cooper, and Katherine Gallaher. Barr and Hoffmann each earned All-Big West honors, finishing third and sixth, respectively, leading a group that saw six of the eight participants post season-best 6K times.
