NEW ORLEANS - Trevor Halsted, Sarah Sumpter and Alycia Cridebring were each selected to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region team following their top-25 finishes at the NCAA Div. I West Regional on Nov. 9.
Over 450 athletes were selected as All-Region honorees after finishing in the top-25 individually at one of the nine regional sites. Five total athletes from the Big West Conference, including the three Aggies, received All-Region accolades.
Halsted was the men's top finisher in virtually every race in the 2012 season, including the West Regional where he placed 20th individually.
The sophomore opened the season by winning the Aggie Open before going on pace the UC Davis men's team with a 13th-place finish at the Stanford Invitational. He earned his first-ever Big West Athlete of the Week award for his performance at Stanford after clocking in at 24:37 in the 8K race.
He was sixth at the Bronco Invitational, then sixth at the Big West Conference Championships on Oct. 27 to conclude his sophomore season.
Sumpter and Cridebring have likewise paced the Aggie women throughout the season, culminating in top-20 finishes for both runners at the NCAA West Regional. Sumpter was 13th overall in a time of 20:03 while Cridebring finished just five seconds back in a season-best time of 20:08 to place 16th.
The duo started the year with a one-two finish at the Aggie Open with Cridebring winning the 4K race and Sumpter following close behind in second. They went on to finish as UC Davis' top two scorers at the Pac-12 Preview on Sept. 21 as Sumpter finished second overall in a time of 17:07 while Cridebring was fifth at 17:38.
Sumpter and Cridebring finished 12th and 29th, respectively, at the NCAA Div. I Pre-Nationals on Oct. 13 before leading the UC Davis women to a second-place finish at the Big West Championships on Oct. 27. Sumpter was second while Cridebring was third at the conference meet.
The All-Region awards mark the first for all three Aggie runners.
