MORAGA, Calif. -- UC Davis junior Nick Lynch slugged his first home run of the season to give the Aggies the early lead, but the visitors could not hold back host Saint Mary's for long as the Gaels sent 11 batters to the plate as part of a five-run fourth inning en route to a 5-1 victory on Thursday afternoon to conclude day one of the Gael Invitational at Louis Guisto Field in Moraga, Calif.

Lynch reached base three times on the day for UC Davis (1-4 overall), following up his home run by reaching on an error in the sixth and singling in the eighth to finish 2-for-4 for the day. Junior Kevin Barker, freshman Mason Novak, and junior Izaak Silva, also added base hits for the Aggies, who left nine on base for the game -- five of those in scoring position.

Senior Harry Stanwyck (0-2) suffered the loss for UC Davis, allowing all five runs on three hits, walking six, and striking out five, in 3 1/3 innings of work before giving way to Robert Parucha, who held the Gaels (2-3) to just two hits while striking out three in 4 2/3 innings of shutout baseball.

Saint Mary's Ryan Brockett evened his record at 1-1 overall on the season, allowing just the one run on five hits, walking three, and striking out four in seven innings of work.

Five different Gaels drove home runs in the decisive fifth inning as Saint Mary's loaded the bases with one out on a walk, a double to left, and a single back to the mound, to bring up Darian Ramage, who knocked a single to drive home Connor Hornsby and tie the game.

Anthony Gonsolin followed with the go-ahead run by drawing a bases-loaded walk, Anthony Villa followed by being hit by a pitch to drive home another, and Collin Ferguson made it 4-1 with a sacrifice fly to center. Two batters later, Trevor Ellison capped the scoring with another bases-loaded walk for the final 5-1 tally.

Ramage led the Gaels with a 2-for-4 day as the bottom third of the Saint Mary's order accounted for four of the team's five hits.

UC Davis returns to the field on Friday at 10 a.m., taking on the University of Portland in the first of two meetings between the two squads in the tournament.
