HONOLULU, Hawaii - Lukas Kirby had three hits and three RBIs, while teammates Brandon Oliver and Dan Baldini also collected three hits apiece as UC Davis concluded the First Hawai'i Title Rainbow Baseball Tournament with a 6-3 victory over Sacramento State Saturday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium.
With the win the Aggies improve to 8-9 on the season and conclude the five-game tournament with a 2-3 record. Sacramento State falls to 7-10-1 overall.
With the score tied at 2-2 in the seventh, the Aggies exploded for a three-run inning. With runners at second and third and two outs, Kirby drilled a double to right, scoring Oliver and Ryan Royster. Baldini then lined a single to right field to bring home Kirby and make it 5-2, Aggies. In the eighth UC Davis added another run as Oliver singled home Matt Dempsey to close out the Aggie scoring.
The Hornets took the early lead as Jim Strombach led off the game with a single to left then one out later, scored on an error by Aggie third baseman Daniel Descalso. The Aggies tied it in the second as Kirby led off with a double then scored on a Baldini single up the middle.
Sacramento State grabbed its last lead in the second when Matt Wilson singled home David Flores, who reached on a one-out double to left. The Aggies tied it again in the third as Kirby's second hit of the afternoon, a single to left, scored Oliver from second.
Sacramento State closed out the scoring in the ninth as Pedro Santiago lined a pinch-hit home run down the right field line.
Vince DeCoito started for UC Davis and went the first five innings, scattering six hits while allowing two runs with four strikeouts. Peter Soskin came on the sixth and picked up his first win of the season, allowing one run on three hits, striking out three.
Mick Joyce suffered his first loss of the season after relieving Hornet starter Ken Livesey with two outs in the fifth. Joyce went two innings, allowing three runs on four hits.
UC Davis returns to the Diamond on Friday when it begins a three-game series with Utah Valley State at Dobbins Stadium.
