Box Score

EUGENE, Ore. — UC Davis freshman Tanner Murray was 3-for-6 during Saturday’s doubleheader, including two hits in the nightcap, while senior Guillermo Salazar posted a 2-RBI single to keep the Aggies within striking distance in game two, but it wasn’t enough to lift UC Davis as host Oregon swept a doubleheader on Saturday by the scores of 4-1 and 7-2 at PK Park in Eugene, Ore.

The Ducks improve to an 11-3 season record, while the Aggies fall to a 3-9 mark overall.

After two scoreless innings, UC Davis was first to get on the board in the top of the third, thanks to a lead-off double from freshman Tanner Murray, giving the Aggies their first hit of the afternoon. Murray was driven in by Matt Smith, who notched his second RBI of the season.

Trailing Oregon, 2-1, the Aggies threatened in the top of the fifth, once again beginning a rally off the bats of Murray and Smith. After Murray was sent down to first base on a hit-by-pitch, Smith connected for a single up the middle. But the Aggies would bring no other scores across in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, resulting in a 4-1 loss to Oregon.

Aggie left-hander Chris Brown (1-2, 5.30 ERA) suffered the loss for UC Davis after allowing three runs on five hits across 5.1 innings of work. Newcomers Brett Erwin and Brock Moffitt each threw 1.1 innings for the Aggies, with Erwin entering in the sixth and allowing one run on two hits, and Moffitt entering in the seventh to close out the game for UC Davis with a scoreless, hitless effort on the mound.

Sophomore James Acuna (2-0, 2.29 ERA) earned his second win of the season for the Ducks after allowing one run on two hits over seven innings on the mound, while fellow sophomore Kenyon Yovan (2.45 ERA) posted a team-high fourth save of the season providing the Ducks with two innings of scoreless, hitless relief, striking out four in the process.

In game two of Saturday’s doubleheader at PK Park, the Ducks took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Ducks would go on to bring another run across in the fourth and two more in the sixth, boosting Oregon to a 4-0 advantage over the Aggies.

The UC Davis offense remained silent until the top of the eighth as Murray and Myers were up to their old tricks again, with Murray finding a hole through the left side for a single, and Myers reaching on a walk. Pinch hitter Guillermo Salazar gave the Aggies what they were looking for with a line drive up the right field line that hit off the glove of the first baseman for a 2-RBI single, halving the Ducks' lead. Salazar’s single also marked the first hit allowed this season by right-hander Ryne Nelson in over 2.2 innings on the mound.

But a three-run inning from the Ducks in the bottom of the eighth would create a 7-2 advantage that would prove too much to overcome for the Aggies, resulting in a doubleheader sweep for Oregon.

Blake Hannah (0-2, 9.72) suffered his second loss of the season for UC Davis after allowing two runs on six hits over five innings of work, and striking out four. Senior Cameron Briggs made his first appearance on the mound for the Aggies this season entering in the eighth inning and allowing two runs on three hits.

Kolby Somers (1-0, 1.69 ERA) earned his first win for the Ducks after allowing two hits over five innings, while Ryne Nelson (0.00 ERA) was credited with his second save of the season after providing Oregon with two innings of scoreless relief.

UC Davis and Oregon are scheduled to meet for the series finale tomorrow (Mar. 11) with first pitch at 12 p.m. UC Davis will then return home with a quick turnaround before facing Santa Clara on Tuesday (Mar. 13) at 2:30 p.m. at Phil Swimley Field.
