Olsen Leads Hornets Attack In Victory Over Aggies

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Mikela Olsen hit a pair of home runs and Marshall Plouffe pitched si strong innings of three-hit ball as Sacramento State defeated UC Davis, 9-3, in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Hornet field.

With the loss the Aggies fall to 12-9 on the season while the Hornets even their record at 9-9.

UC Davis third baseman Matt Kamigawachi put the Aggies on the board first with a leadoff home run in the top of the second inning. The Hornets responded with two runs in the bottom of the second following a two-run home run off the bat of Matt Wilson.

Sacramento State broke the game open in the fourth by putting up five runs, the big blast being a two-run shot from Olsen. UC Davis got one back in the fifth as Andy Reisinger scored on a groundout off the bat of Dustin Soderman. The Hornets then put the game away with two more runs in their half of the sixth as with one man on, Olsen pounded his second home run of the day, a shot to left to close out Sacramento State's scoring.

Aggie shortstop Ryan Coultas added a final run with his second home run of the season, a shot over the left field fence in the top of the ninth.

Andy Kloos took the start for UC Davis and went three innings, surrendering four runs on five hits while striking out three. Brett Elliston and Peter Soskin each went one inning in relief, surrendering three runs each before Jack Boyl came on for the final three innings, allowing just one hit while striking out two. Offensively, Coultas had two of the Aggies' five hits, while Kamigawachi, Reisinger and Tyler LaTorre each had one.

 

 

Sacramento State pounded out 12 hits on the afternoon, including three by Wilson along with two RBIs. Olsen's two home runs produced four RBIs while Chris Kinsey also had a pair of hits. Plouffe went six innings for the Hornets, allowing just three hits and two runs while striking out three. Kinsey pitched three innings of relief, allowing just two hits and one run.

The Aggies return to the field on Friday when they host Concordia (Ore.) in a non-conference game at Dobbins Stadium. Gametime is set for 2pm.
