RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Brandon Oliver had three hits and the Aggies took advantage of four Highlander errors as UC Davis captured a 6-2 victory over UC Riverside in the third of a three-game series Saturday afternoon at the Riverside Sports Complex.

With the win the Aggies take two of three from Riverside and improve to 14-10 overall. The Highlanders fall to 12-12 on the season.

The first two games in the series were decidedly lopsided as both resulted in double-digit victories, Saturday's game was more typical of a UC Davis contest. The Aggies received good pitching from starter Vince DeCoito, played solid defense and received some timely hitting in the four-run victory.

After freshman Sean Rooney led off the second with a single, the Aggies took advantage of two Highlander errors to score three runs, with Kyle Irving, David Huffman and Oliver and producing RBIs in the inning. In the seventh the Aggies had runners at first and second with two outs when Tyler LaTorre's grounder to short was misplayed, loading the bases for Irving. The senior rightfielder lined a single to right, scoring two more runs as UC Davis took a commanding 6-0 lead.

While the opportunistic Aggie offense was doing its job, DeCotio was busy keeping the Highlander bats in check. The junior righthander allowed a one-out hit in the first, but retired the next 12 batters before hitting Jeff Abney with two outs in the fifth. DeCoito worked into the seventh before giving way to Eddie Gamboa who allowed just one hit over the final 2 2/3 innings. DeCoito finished his night going 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out one as his record improved to 3-2 this season.

UC Riverside scored its two runs in the seventh as DeCoito allowed a bases-loaded walk to Abney and Anthony Claggatt closed out the scoring with a sacrifice fly. Highlander starter Jose Shaw also worked into the seventh, allowing six runs on eight hits, although only one of those runs was earned.

UC Davis pounded out 10 hits in the contest, three by Oliver and two each from LaTorre and Irving, who also finished the game with three RBIs.

UC Davis returns to the diamond on Tuesday when it visits Saint Mary's for a 2:30 p.m. contest in Moraga.
