SAN JOSE, Calif. - The UC Davis baseball team showed no signs of rust in its first game after finals week, scoring seven runs through the first three innings en route to a 9-2 victory over San Jose State on Monday night at Municipal Stadium.

The Aggies (9-12) scored nine runs on 11 hits and three walks with no errors while the Spartans (7-18) scored two runs on seven hits and four walks with one error.

Starting pitcher Harry Stanwyck (3-2) earned the win for UC Davis after tossing two perfect innings in a controlled start. San Jose State starter Daniel Chavez (1-2) suffered the loss after giving up seven runs on six hits and one walk in three innings pitched.

In two midweek wins against San Jose State, the Aggies have totaled 31 runs on 34 hits.

Right fielder John Williams went 3-for-4 with a team-high three RBIs for the Aggies on Monday night, but it was actually his second best game against the Spartans this year. In the first meeting, Williams went 3-for-7 with two triples, a double, four RBIs and four runs scored.

The UC Davis offense used a barage of singles to push past the Spartans on Monday night. Other than a bases-clearing double by Williams in a five-run third inning, all of the Aggies' hits were singles. The Aggies scored all but one of their nine runs with two outs.

After scoring single runs in the first and second, the Aggies' big third inning started off with a single to center by Mike Mazzara. Chavez retired the next two UC Davis batters but then the wheels came off for the Spartans' starting pitcher. Chavez hit three straight batters, including catcher Spencer Brann on a 2-2 count with the bases loaded. Another Aggie scored on a bases loaded passed ball but the run would have scored regardless, as left fielder Seth Batty drew a full-count walk. That set up Williams, who crushed the first pitch he saw to left field to drive in three more two-out runs.

UC Davis once again used a two-out rally to push across a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Second baseman Steven Patterson was hit by a pinch before first baseman Nick Lynch singled up the middle. With two men on, center fielder Kevin Barker singled to drive in Patterson and Brann followed with the Aggies' third consecutive single to plate Lynch.

Williams shined with three hits as Mazzara, Lynch and Brann each tallied two. Brann had two RBIs to go with two runs scored while Mazzara and Lynch also scored two runs.

San Jose State first baseman Matt Carroll led the Spartans with two hits and a RBI.

The Aggies will be back in action at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday when they play host to Stanford at Dobbins Stadium.
