DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis baseball team received six shutout innings from its bullpen but the Aggies couldn't overcome a rough start and lost the finale of a three-game Big West Conference series with No. 4 ranked Cal State Fullerton, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at Dobbins Stadium.

The Aggies (10-19, 0-6 Big West) scored two runs on seven hits with five errors and were swept for the second straight time by a top-25 team. UC Davis lost all three games at then No. 21 ranked Cal Poly in its Big West opener last weekend. On Sunday, the first place Titans (28-4, 6-0) posted five runs on 10 hits with one error.

Cal State Fullerton starting pitcher Grahamm Wiest (6-1) picked up the win after allowing two runs on six hits in 7.2 innings with four strikeotus and one walk, the Titans' only free pass in the series. J.D. Davis, who was the Titans' designated hitter in each of the three games, picked up his second save of the season after recording the final out in the ninth. UC Davis starter Evan Wolf (1-1) suffered his first loss of the year after giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits in three innings with two strikeouts and one walk.

All five of Cal State Fullerton's runs came over the first three innings. The Titans scored one run on two hits in the first inning and tallied four runs on three hits and two errors in the third, including center fielder Michael Lorenzen's three-run homer to left, his sixth of the season.

LHP Spencer Henderson came on in relief in the fourth and tossed three scoreless innings with three hits allowed and three strikeouts. RHP Patrick Hennessey pitched a perfect seventh inning and RHP Craig Lanza gave up just one hit and one walk in the final two innings. All told, UC Davis' bullpen allowed just four hits and one walk in six scoreless innings.

The Aggies' offense, however, couldn't finish off a comeback while the bullpen kept the Titans in check.

UC Davis scored a run in the fifth on shortstop Evan Heptig's RBI single to left and another in the eighth when center fielder John Williams singled in Heptig. But the Aggies left eight men on base and ground into two double plays, which stymied any rally attempt.

Heptig, who entered in the fourth inning, went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI. Williams, who hit a team-high .417 in the series, and first baseman Austin Logan also had two hits each. Cal state Fullerton shortstop Richy Pedroza was 3-for-4 with two runs scored to pace the Titans. Lorenzen had a game-high three RBIs, all on his shot to left in the third inning.

UC Davis pitching limited the hot-hitting Titans to just a .234 batting average in the series but the Aggies hit only .208 as a team.

The Aggies will be back in action at Dobbins Stadium shortly, when they play host to visiting Saint Mary's at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
