LONG BEACH, Calif. - UC Davis scored a run in the ninth inning but couldn't complete its comeback and dropped a 6-4 decision against Long Beach State in the second game of a Big West Conference series at Blair Field.

The Aggies (11-21, 0-8 Big West) tallied four runs on 11 hits with no errors, their first errorless game since March 29. The Dirtbags (15-18, 5-3) posted six runs on 10 hits with no errors.

Long Beach State starting pitcher Jake Stassi (4-1) picked up the win after allowing three runs on seven hits in 7.1 innings with one walk and four strikeouts. Landon Hunt recorded the final out of the ninth for his first save of the season.

UC Davis starter Spencer Koopmans (0-5) suffered the loss after giving up five runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings with no walks and one strikeout. Reliever Spencer Henderson kept the Aggies close and surrendered just one run on one hit with no walks in 3.2 innings.

Second baseman Steven Patterson went 3-for-4 for the second straight game and scored two runs. Left fielder Seth Batty and third baseman Paul Politi each had two hits.

The Dirtbags had three players each post two hits while left fielder Ino Patron had a game-high two RBIs.

Long Beach State took an early lead with two runs in the second inning for the second straight game. UC Davis tied it up, however, with two runs in the top of the fifth.

Patterson led off with a single and, two outs later, scored on Adam Young's RBI triple to left. John Williams followed with a single up the middle to score Young.

The Dirtbags wasted little time in taking back the lead, as they scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

That would be enough to hold the lead, as the Aggies could only get back singles runs in the seventh and the ninth. Catcher Izaak Silva tallied an RBI on a groundout in the seventh, while Austin Logan hit a pinch-hit RBI single in the ninth.

UC Davis will look to prevent a sweep on Sunday with the series finale set for 1 p.m.
