DAVIS, Calif. -- UC Davis sent 12 batters to the plate as part of a seven-run third inning and the defense turned four double plays on the day to help snuff out any Long Beach State comeback as the Aggies clinched their first Big West Conference series of the season with an 8-4 win on Sunday afternoon at Dobbins Stadium.

UC Davis evened its record at 16-16 overall and moved to 3-6 in the Big West with the victory, winning its first best-of-three conference series since taking two-of-three at Pacific on May 10-12 of last season. Long Beach State fell to 16-18 overall and 3-3 in conference play with the loss, dropping a series to the Aggies for the first time since 2012 in Davis.

After being held to just two hits in Saturday's 2-0 loss, the Aggies' offense regained the groove they had on Friday, banging out 14 hits against five Long Beach State pitchers -- including five for extra bases in support of starter Evan Wolf (3-3) -- half of which came during the decsive third inning. In that frame, after a strikeout to lead-off the inning, the next four UC Davis hitters all reached against starter Nick Sabo (2-3), including back-to-back doubles by Nick Lynch and Mark Cardinalli that broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Aggies a 4-1 lead.

Ryan Millison entered in relief but didn't fare much better, as Tino Lipson followed with a single to bring up Tanner Bily, who clubbed his first career home run -- a three-run shot over the left field fence -- and Adam Young added his second hit of the inning, an RBI single back up the middle, to cap the scoring for an 8-1 lead.

That seemed to be more than enough for UC Davis, which allowed just three hits through the first five innings, before Long Beach State began to chip away. Back-to-back walks and a bunt single loaded the bases before the visitors were able to push one across with an error on a ball hit by Richard Prigitano to make it 8-2. Ino Patron added an RBI single to make it 8-3 and chase Wolf from the game in favor of Raul Jacobson, who got out of trouble by getting pinch hitter Zack Rivera to foul out and a ground ball double play by Zack Domingues to end the inning and strand two.

Long Beach State added another in the seventh as the Aggies turned their third double-play of the game, but the bullpen shut Long Beach State down the rest of the way, holding the 49ers hitless and getting a fourth twin-killing after a lead-off hit batter in the ninth.

Wolf pitched into the sixth, allowing three runs on five hits, walking two and striking out two, while the bullpen combined to allow just one run on one hit over the final four innings as Jacobson, Orlando Razo, Spencer Henderson, and Zach Stone, pitched an inning each. UC Davis finished with double-digit hits offensively for the 14th time this season while, defensively, the four double plays were the most for the Aggies since they turned the same number in an 8-0 win at California on Feb. 24, 2010.

Young and Lynch each finished with three hits to lead UC Davis, while Steven Patterson, Tino Lipson, and Bily also finished with multiple hits on the day. For Patterson and Young, Sunday marked their team-best 13th multi-hit games of the season, while Lynch collected his team-high fifth, three-hit game of the year.

Patron was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead Long Beach State, while four others finished with singles.

UC Davis closes out a four-game homestand on Tuesday (April 15) at 2:30 p.m., welcoming Causeway rival Sacramento State to Dobbins Stadium. The Aggies then hit the road for a three-game Big West Conference series at UC Riverside beginning on Thursday (April 17) and running through Saturday due to the Easter holiday.

For those unable to make the trip to Southern California, the final two games of the series with the Highlanders (Friday and Saturday) will be featured as part of the Big West's broadcast package online on ESPN3.com and on mobile devices via the WatchESPN app.
