WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Junior left-hander Orlando Razo allowed just two hits and struck out 10 in a complete-game shutout, helping lift UC Davis to a 3-0 victory over Cal Poly to even their Big West Conference series on Friday night at Raley Field in West Sacramento, Calif.

The Aggies snapped a five-game skid, improving to 10-18 overall and 3-5 in conference play, while the Mustangs had their four-game winning streak snapped, falling to 14-19 overall and 5-3 in the Big West.

"We needed something big to happen and Orlando delivered for us," Head Coach Matt Vaughn said. "For me, he put this team on his back and said 'Come on, guys, I'm gonna get this one.' "

Razo (4-2) was dealing en route to his team-best fourth victory of the year, pitching 5.2 innings of no-hit baseball before Bradlee Beesley singled through the left side with two outs in the sixth, and retiring 15 consecutive batters before the hit. He struck out at least one batter in eight of the nine innings, allowing an infield single to Nick Meyer for the only other hit on the night, and stranded six Cal Poly base runners for the game, three of those in scoring position.

"I was focused on winning the baseball game, being aggressive in the strike zone, getting the team a win with a chance to win the series tomorrow," Razo said.

It was the first complete-game shutout by a UC Davis pitcher since Harry Stanwyck scattered seven hits and struck out four in a 2-0 win at Pacific on May 10, 2013.

Meanwhile, the Aggies got all the runs they needed in the second inning as an error on a ball hit by Cameron Olson and a single by Ignacio Diaz put two on for Alex Aguiar, who curled a double into the right centerfield gap to plate both runs for a 2-0 lead.

After a ground ball moved Aguiar up 90 feet, Ryan Hooper skied a ball into centerfield with one out, just deep enough to score his teammate from third for the final 3-0 advantage. Aguiar added a single in the fourth to finish 2-for-4 on the night, while Hooper, Jacob Thomas, and Olson, added hits on the night.

Spencer Howard (2-1) suffered the loss for the Mustangs, allowing just one earned (three overall) on six hits, walking a pair and striking out three, stranding four on base -- two in scoring position. Cam Schneider finished the final two innings, retiring all six batters he faced on a pair of fly balls and four groundouts.

The two teams return to Dobbins Stadium for the rubber game on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. Hall of Fame head coach Phil Swimley will be honored in a pre-game ceremony by naming the field after the long-time Aggie mentor at 12:45 p.m.
