LONG BEACH, Calif. - Danny Espinosa, A.J. Pinocchio and Travis Howell each drove in multiple runs and No. 25 Long Beach State scored eight combined runs in the sixth and seventh innings to earn a 9-6 victory over UC Davis on Sunday afternoon at Blair Field.

UC Davis is now 13-23 overall this season while the Dirtbags take the overall series, 2-1, and improve to 23-14.

Daniel Descalso now has 11 straight game with a hit as he went 2-for-4 from the plate with two RBIs, two runs scored and a triple. Despite not recording a hit, Evan Hudson also had two RBIs in four at-bats.

Aaron Hanke and Michael Jacobellis each drove in runs while Brandon Oliver went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored.

For Long Beach State, Espinosa was 2-for-3 with a game-high three RBIs to lead the way offensively. Pinocchio and Howell drove in two runs apiece as the Dirtbags exploded for 17 total hits on the day.

The Dirtbags scored an early run in the third inning off an RBI single from Shane Peterson, but failed to score another run until the sixth inning.

The Aggies scored two runs in the top half of the fourth inning behind an RBI triple from Descalso and a RBI from Hudson. Descalso now has a team-leading three triples this season.

Hanke added another RBI single in the sixth to give the Aggies a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom half of the inning.

The Dirtbags would get a combined eight runs in the sixth and seventh inning to jump out to a commanding 8-3 lead.

UC Davis mounted a rally in the eighth inning by scoring three runs off RBI singles from Descalso, Hudson and Jacobellis.

 

 

The Aggies continue their nine-game road swing next week with a single game at San Francisco before traveling back down to Southern California for a three-game series with UC Irvine.
