IRVINE, Calif. - No. 21 ranked UC Irvine hit a two-run double in the ninth inning and the UC Davis baseball team was on the wrong end of a walkoff for the second time against the Anteaters, losing 4-3 in a Big West Conference game on Sunday afternoon at Anteater Ballpark.

In nine games against top-25 teams this season, the Aggies have lost leads in the ninth inning or later four times. Sunday's result was the third walkoff loss for UC Davis in the last four games.

The Aggies (15-26, 3-12 Big West) posted three runs on seven hits with one error. The Anteaters (28-12, 10-5) scored four runs on seven hits with no errors.

UC Irvine reliever Race Pamenter (2-2) picked up the win after tossing a scoreless ninth inning. UC Davis reliever Craig Lanza (0-2) suffered the loss after allowing two runs on four hits in two innings. Aggies' starter Evan Wolf gave up just one run on two hits in six innings with six walks and three strikeouts.

Outfielder John Williams went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI to pace the Aggies offensively, while second baseman Steven Patterson saw his 10-game hitting streak end after going 0-for-3 on Sunday. UC Irvine catcher Ronnie Shaeffer had a game-high three hits but first baseman Connor Spencer stole the show with his sole hit of the day, a double in the ninth inning.

The Aggies had slowly put together a 3-0 lead on single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings but it was 3-2 heading into the ninth.

Lanza retired the first two batters before pinch hitter Ryan Cooper singled to third and moved to second a throwing error. Shortstop Chris Rabago drew a nine-pitch walk in the next at-bat before center fielder Dominique Taylor reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. That's when Spencer stepped to the dish, a hit a double to right center on a 1-2 count, scoring Rabago and Cooper.

The Aggies will open up a five-game homestand at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, when Santa Clara visits for a non-conference game. UC Davis will then play host to Cal state Northridge for a three-game Big West series before meeting rival Sacramento State next Tuesday afternoon.
