DAVIS, Calif. -- UC Davis sophomore Ryan Anderson collected a pair of RBI singles and junior Ryan Hooper extended his hitting streak to nine games with a fifth-inning double, but six unearned runs in the second inning erased an early Aggie lead, helping visiting Long Beach State to a 10-2 win in the Big West Conference series finale on Sunday afternoon at Phil Swimley Field at Dobbins Stadium.

UC Davis lost its fourth straight contest in falling to 12-23 overall and 5-10 in conference play, while Long Beach improved to 28-14 overall and 13-2 to remain in first place in the league.

Hooper's nine-game hitting streak matches Ignacio Diaz for the longest by an Aggie this season, batting .419 (13-for-31) over that stretch, while teammate Cameron Olson (eight games), Anderson (seven games), and Alex Aguiar (six games), also extended lengthy hitting streaks with singles on Sunday.

Anderson's two-out RBI single to right centerfield put his team on the board first and he added another in the third for his fifth multi-RBI game of the season, but it was a big second inning that put Long Beach State in the lead for good.

A key one-out error eventually prolonged the inning for the visitors as a two-out single by Laine Huffman and a grand slam by Lucas Tancas -- his eighth of the year -- put Long Beach State up 6-1, sending 10 batters to the plate in the frame. An RBI ground out in the fourth extended the lead, and Long Beach added three more in the fifth on a sacrifice fly and another two-run single by Huffman, who finished 3-for-4, to cap the scoring.

The Aggie bullpen took over, as Blake Hannah, Andres Lara, and Blake Peters, shut down opposing bats over the final four innings, stranding four runners on base -- including the bases loaded in the eighth -- in the process.

Dave Smith (5-1) earned the win for Long Beach State, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out five over seven innings, before giving way to Josh Advocate, who struck out one in the final two innings. Robert Garcia (1-5) suffered the loss, allowing just four earned runs on 11 hits and striking out four over five innings.

UC Davis returns to the diamond for mid-week clash with Saint Mary's on Tuesday (May 2) at 2:30 p.m., before hitting the road for a three-game series at UC Santa Barbara on May 5-7.
