Box Score

MORAGA, Calif. — Junior Caleb Van Blake recorded a 2-RBI single in the seventh while fellow junior Cameron Briggs finished 2-for-4 with one run scored, but three homeruns from the Saint Mary’s lineup was enough to help lift the Gaels to a 7-2 win at Louis Guisto Field on Tuesday afternoon in Moraga, Calif.

The Aggies fell to 15-24 overall with the loss, while the Gaels improved to 26-18 on the season.

Blake Hannah (2-6) suffered the loss for the Aggies, charged with three earned runs on five hits over two innings of work—one of six hurlers to take the mound for UC Davis on Tuesday afternoon. Conner Loeprich (2-1) was credited with the win for the Gaels after allowing three hits over 3.2 innings on the mound.

The Aggies threatened in the visitor half of the first inning after a lead-off walk, stolen base, and passed ball advanced freshman Tanner Murray to third, but UC Davis came up empty.

Saint Mary’s got on the board in the bottom half of the inning, stringing together a pair of singles and a 2-RBI double off the bat of Kevin Milam to make it 2-0.

Jackson Thoreson then recorded the first homer of the day for Saint Mary’s to give the Gaels a 3-0 advantage. Thoreson went on to finish 2-for-4 on the afternoon with two runs and an RBI.

Three walks, three wild pitches, and a run-scoring hit-by-pitch at bat for Gio Diaz made it 4-0 in the fifth, before UC Davis answered with a two-run effort in the seventh. The Aggies led off the inning with back-to-back singles from Cameron Briggs and Guillermo Salazar, halving Saint Mary’s lead thanks to a 2-RBI single by pinch hitter Caleb Van Blake.

Briggs finished 2-for-4 with one run scored while Van Blake ended the afternoon 1-for-1 with 2 RBI, and Murray finished 2-for-3 with two infield singles.

But a two-run homer by Milam—his fifth of the season—would allow Saint Mary’s to reclaim its four-run advantage in the home half of the seventh. Milam paced the offense finishing 2-for-3 with two runs and 4 RBI.

The Gaels would tack on one more run in the eighth thanks to a solo shot from Austin Piscotty, marking the third homer of the afternoon by the Saint Mary's lineup, lifting the Gaels to a 7-2 victory.
