DAVIS, Calif. - Brett Morgan hit a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to bring two runs home as UC Davis combined for five runs in the final two innings to take a 6-5 win over San Jose State on Wednesday at Dobbins Stadium in Davis.

UC Davis moves to 13-25 overall while San Jose State drops to 30-18.

The Aggies trailed 5-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth and San Jose State turned two quick outs to start the inning by striking out Eric Johnson and forcing Scott Kalush to fly out to left field.

Daniel Cepin began the UC Davis rally with a single to right field, then Justin Andrade reached base after being hit by a pitch for the third time in the game. Pinch hitter Alex Dreyfuss walked to load the bases and Corbin Cutshaw was brought in to pinch run for Andrade at second base. With a 1-0 count, Morgan connected on the next pitch he saw, sending a base hit into left field. Cepin would easily score from third and Cutshaw beat the throw from left field to score the winning run from second base.

The two-RBI single was Morgan's only hit of the game.

UC Davis tied the game in the eighth inning with three runs. Andrade scored the first run off a double from Scott Heylman, then Heylman and Morgan, who walked earlier in the inning, both scored on David Popkins' single into right field.

With the score tied at 4-4, San Jose State capitalized on two Aggie errors that occurred during the same play in the top of the ninth. Nick Schulz led off the inning with a single, then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Andrew Rodriguez. Craig Hertler was intentionally walked, putting runners on first and second with one out.

Andrade dropped a hard hit ground ball from Danny Stienstra at third base, then threw over to second in an attempt to get Hertler out, but Adam Young mishandled the throw which allowed Schulz to reach third, then score to give San Jose State a 5-4 lead. UC Davis turned a double play to end the inning.

UC Davis took an early 1-0 lead as Heylman scored in the first inning, but San Jose State tied it with a run in the third, then scored twice in the sixth to take a 3-1 lead. The Spartans added another run in the seventh to take a 4-1 lead heading into the eighth.

Heylman was 3-for-4 with to runs and an RBI while Popkins went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

For San Jose State, Hertler went 4-for-4 with a run and two RBI and was a home run away from hitting for the cycle. Nick Borg was 2-for-3 while Schulz was 3-for-5.

Harry Stanwyck started on the mound for UC Davis and gave up three runs on seven hits while striking out three in six complete innings. Ryan Lucas and Nathan Slater were each called in as relievers before Tom Briner closed out the game for the Aggies. Briner gave up only one hit and the only run that scored during his outing was an unearned run. He was given the win to move to 3-1.

Esteban Guzman threw four innings of relief pitching for the Spartans and held the Aggies hitless while striking out four. Zack Jones, however, entered in the eighth and gave up all five UC Davis runs to get the loss.

UC Davis returns to Big West Conference action on Friday as the Aggies face Pacific for three games.
