DAVIS, Calif. - The Hornets scored all of their runs in a big eighth inning and, despite a very strong start by freshman left-hander Spencer Henderson, the UC Davis baseball team lost, 4-3, to rival Sacramento State in a Causeway Cup game on Tuesday afternoon at Dobbins Stadium.

The Aggies (16-30) were swept in the three-game season series with the Hornets after scoring three runs on 10 hits with one error on Tuesday. The Hornets (30-19) scored four runs on nine hits with no errors.

Sacramento State reliever Brandon Creel (7-3) picked up the win after allowing no runs on three hits in two innings with one walk and two strikeouts. Sacramento State closer Sutter McLoughlin tallied his 15th save of the season after tossing a two-hit ninth inning.

UC Davis reliever Robert Parucha took the loss after surrendering two runs on two hits in 0.1 innings with no walks and no strikeouts. Henderson, in his second start of the year, allowed just two runs on seven hits in seven innings with no walks and three strikeouts.

UC Davis outfielder Austin March had a game-high three hits and a RBI while third baseman Paul Politi and catcher Cameron Olson also drove in runs.

Sacramento State first baseman Chris Lewis hit a two-run double in the decisive eighth inning and went 2-for-5 in the game. Outfielder Nathan Lukes and second baseman Andrew Ayers also had two hits each.

The Aggies built up a 3-0 lead with single runs in the second, fifth and sixth innings.

In the second, first baseman Nick Lynch was hit by a pitch then stole second and third before Olson drove him in with a sacrifice fly to right.

In the sixth, Politi drew a bases loaded walk before March singled in Lynch in the seventh.

The wheels came off in the eighth, however, as the Hornets scored four runs on four hits, including Lewis' big two-RBI double that tied the game at 3-3. Sacramento State third baseman Will Soto hit a RBI ground out to second to drive in the game-winning run.

UC Davis will be on the road in Stockton, Calif., this weekend for a three-game Big West series against Pacific. First pitch on Friday is 6 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. start on Saturday and 1 p.m. start on Sunday.
