DAVIS, Calif. -- UC Davis sophomore Ryan Anderson extended his team-best hitting streak to 15 games and teammate Mark Cardinalli finished with a pair of hits on the day, but visiting UC Riverside scored six times in the top of the ninth to put an end to any late rally by the Aggies and escape Northern California with an 11-6 win in Sunday's series finale at Phil Swimley Field at Dobbins Stadium.

Having already clinched its second consecutive Big West Conference series win with victories in the first two games, UC Davis fell to 17-26 overall and 9-12 in Big West Conference play with the loss, while the Highlanders improved to 19-28 overall and 5-13 in league games.

Anderson's eighth inning single to left kept alive one of the longest hit streaks in the program's Division I history, moving him into sole possession of fifth place on that list, and reaching base safely in each of his last 17 contests to boot. He stands just one back of Jake Jefferies, who had hits in 16 consecutive games from Feb. 29-March 26, 2008, for fourth place, and four back of Paul Politi's all-time Division I mark.

With both UC Davis' Robert Garcia (2-6) and UC Riverside's Richard Delgado (1-2) firing zeroes to start the game, the Highlanders finally broke up the shutout with a big fifth inning, sending nine batters to the plate and getting help from three extra-base hits to build a 4-0 lead.

With Delagdo having retired 11 straight, the Aggies answered quickly against the Riverside starter to halve the deficit in the home half of the inning as Alejandro Lara led off with a walk and went to third on a double by Cardinalli. That brought up Cameron Briggs, who squeezed a single back up the middle to score a pair and make it 4-2.

The Highlanders pulled one of the runs back on an RBI double by Colby Schultz, and UC Davis made it a two-run game once again on Elijah Ontiveros' infield single that made it 5-3, but UC Riverside would deliver the haymaker in the ninth, sending 11 batters to the plate and taking advantage of a pair of Aggie errors to score six runs to put the game away.

UC Davis continued to claw back, scoring three times in the ninth off a pair of Highlander relievers as Mason Novak laced an RBI double down the left field line and would later score on a passed ball, while Alex Aguiar added a two-out RBI single later in the frame, but the gap was too wide as a strikeout ended it with a runner in scoring position.

Garcia allowed four runs on five hits over 4.2 innings to take the loss, striking out three on the day, while Delgado took home the win, allowing just three runs on five hits over 6.2 innings of work for UC Riverside.

Six different Highlanders finished with two hits on the day, including six of the team's 13 hits going for extra bases.

UC Davis returns to the diamond with a mid-week game on the road in Reno, Nev., on Tuesday (May 16), as the Aggies take on Nevada at 6 p.m. UC Davis then returns to Phil Swimley Field at Dobbins Stadium for its final home series of the year, welcoming Grand Canyon in for three games beginning Thursday (May 18) and running through Saturday (May 20).

First pitch for the series against the Antelopes is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday, with a 1 p.m. start scheduled for Saturday's finale.
