IRVINE, Calif. - Ollie Linton had an inside-the-park home run while two Anteater pitchers combined for a six-hit shutout as UC Irvine completed a three-game sweep over UC Davis with a 10-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Anteater Ballpark.

With the loss the Aggies fall to 23-25 while UC Irvine improves to 28-21.

The Anteaters scored an unearned run in the second and then added two in the third on a two-run single by first baseman Jaime Martinez for a 3-0 lead.

Anteater second baseman Cody Cipriano singled to left to start the fifth and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Linton drove a full-count pitch deep to centerfield. UC Davis' Ryan Royster played the ball off the wall but Linton beat the relay throw at home for his first home run of the season. Three batters later, Martinez hit his team-leading fourth home run of the season off reliever Justin Fitzgerald to extend the lead to 7-0.

UC Davis threatened to get on the board in the ninth as it loaded the bases with only one out. Daniel Descalso and David Butterworth hit back-to-back singles and David Treat drew a walk to load the bases, but reliever Bryan Petersen struck out the final two batters to end the game.

Aggie senior Peter Soskin earned his first career start and went four innings, allowing five runs and four hits before giving way to Fitzgerald. Michael Philips worked the final 2 1/3 innings, giving up one run on one hit.

Anteater starter Justin Cassel improved to 8-3 this year after working eight strong innings of four-hit ball. Cassel gave up two singles in the first and then retired the next 11 batters before yielding a single to Aaron Hanke to lead off the fifth.

Offensively, Descalso had two of UC Davis' six hits on the day, the only Aggie with more than one. Mark Wagner led UC Irvine as he went 3-4 with a double, triple, two runs scored and two RBI, while Martinez finished the day 2-4 with four RBI.

UC Davis begins a five-game homestand this Tuesday when it hosts USF at Dobbins Stadium. Gametime is set for 2:30 p.m.
