STANFORD, Calif. -- Junior right-hander Justin Mullins pitched a gem, allowing just one run on six hits over seven innings of work, but suffered a no decision after host Stanford scored two runs in the eighth off the UC Davis bullpen to hand the Aggies a 3-1 defeat on Tuesday night at Sunken Diamond.

Coupled with the completion of their game from March 21 that was suspended due to darkness, UC Davis fell to 16-31 overall, as the Cardinal scored two more runs in their half of the ninth to complete a 14-9 win in the suspended game. Stanford improved to 27-21 overall with the two wins.

Mullins struck out five and walked only one, but left without a decision after the Aggies had scored a run on a pinch-hit Mason Novak RBI single in the top of the seventh to tie things up at 1-1. UC Davis had its chances, stranding 10 on base for the game -- six of those in scoring position and three at third base -- after Stanford struck first with an RBI single by Duke Kinamon in the fourth.

Backed by Mullins' effort, the Aggies' defense allowed only seven base runners through the first seven innings, stranding five, before Stanford struck for the go-ahead runs in the eighth. Matt Winaker led-off with a single, was sacrificed to second, and scored the winning run on Tommy Edman's single to center off reliever Chris Brown (1-4). Quinn Brodey followed with an RBI double off Matt Blais following a pitching change for a 3-1 advantage before the sophomore got a pop-up and a strikeout to end the threat.

Keith Weisenberg (1-0), who entered in relief of starter Kris Bubic in the seventh, pitched the final 2.1 innings for the win, slamming the door on any potential UC Davis comeback in the ninth, retiring the side in order after stranding Aggies at third in the seventh and eighth.

Senior Tanner Bily and sophomore Brad Pluschkell finished with a pair of hits for UC Davis, the former collecting his team-best 13th multi-hit game of the season that extended his hitting streak to six games. Plusckell collected his 11th multi-hit game of the year to stand third on the team in that category -- including his fourth in the last six contests.

Edman finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored, and was joined by Brodey and Bo Carter with multi-hit games.

After more than two months of waiting, the two teams finally faced off to complete their suspended contest from back in March, with action picking up in the ninth inning and Stanford holding a 12-9 lead.

Batting first as the visiting team, Bo Carter led off with a single off Ryan Steindorf and scored on a two-out home run over the left field wall by Brodey (his sixth) to extend the Cardinal lead. Steindorf got a ground ball to end the inning, but UC Davis was unable to generate a rally off Colton Hock in the bottom of the ninth, retired in order on a pair of ground balls and a flyout to end it.

Tyler Thorne (2-2) was credited with the win in relief, despite allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits in two innings of work. Blake Peters (3-6) suffered the loss, charged with five runs on six hits in one inning as Stanford scored nine times in the final two innings en route to the win.

Ryan Anderson, Logan Denholm, and Mason Novak, each finished with two hits for the Aggies, while Duke Kinamon was 4-for-5 as five players accounted for 13 of the team's 15 hits in the game.

UC Davis closes out its home schedule with a three-game Big West Conference series this weekend at Dobbins Stadium welcoming Long Beach State to Northern California. The series begins on Friday (May 20) at 2:30 p.m., with Saturday and Sunday's games scheduled for 1 p.m. each day.

The Aggies will salute their senior class prior to first pitch on Sunday as part of "Senior Day" festivities on the field.
