DAVIS, Calif. - Sophomore Scott Heylman hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning to score junior Kyle Mihaylo from second base and give UC Davis a 4-3 victory over Cal State Northridge during Senior Day on Sunday afternoon at Dobbins Stadium. It marks the second straight walk-off win for the Aggies and gives them a 2-1 series victory over the Matadors.
The game marked the end of the 2009 season for both teams. The Aggies ended the season with three wins in the final week to finish 13-42 overall and 5-19 in conference play. The Matadors finish 24-32 and 7-17. All three games of the series were decided by one run.
For the second consecutive game, Cal State Northridge put up a big eighth inning to overcome a multiple-run deficit. The Matadors platted three runs to tie the game at 3-3 and eventually force extra innings.
In the bottom of the 10th, Heylman came up with Mihaylo on second base and lined a singled up the middle to score the wining run. The run was unearned as Mihaylo reached to lead off the inning on a fielding error by the Matador second baseman. Grant Hirniese advanced him into scoring position on a hit-and-run.
Heylman finished with two hits and was one of just three Aggies with more than one hit in the game. Eric Johnson, who had a pinch-hit walk-off single yesterday, finished with a game-high two RBIs while also coming up with a single and a triple. Playing in his final collegiate game, Hirniese finished with a game-best three hits and two runs scored. Mihaylo and Ty Kelly had the other two Aggie hits and both scored a run.
On the mound, Jeremy McChesney pitched well in his final collegiate start as he went seven innings and allowed just two runs while striking out four in the no-decision. Tim Busbin was the fifth Aggie reliever used in the game and pitched scoreless baseball through the final two innings to pick up the win.

For the Matadors, Brian Slover drove home two runs in the eighth inning as a pinch hitter to lead the team. Jason Dabbs was the lone CSUN player with two hits and accounted for the other RBI in the inning. Slover was also on the mound in the 10th for his second consecutive loss.
The Aggies scored two runs in the fourth and another in the sixth to claim a 3-0 lead. Johnson singled home a run in the fourth and belted an RBI-triple in the sixth. Kelly scored the other run in the second on a throwing error on the catcher.
Before the start of the game UC Davis honored seniors Hirneise, McChesney, Ryan Scoma and Adam Bennett. The Aggies completed their second season as an NCAA Division I program.
