DAVIS, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara scored at least one run in six different innings as the UC Davis baseball team dropped an 8-1 decision to the Gauchos on Friday afternoon in a Big West Conference game at Dobbins Stadium.

The Aggies (19-36, 5-11 Big West) tallied one run on five hits with two errors while the Gauchos (33-23, 16-10) posted eight runs on 15 hits with three errors. UC Davis entered the game leading the Big West in hits, averaging more than 10 per game.

UCSB starting pitcher Robby Nesovic (4-3) stiffled the Hornets early as he picked up the win. The freshman allowed just two hits through the first six innings before the Aggies struck for their lone run of the game on two hits and an error in the seventh. Nesovic allowed one run (unearned) on four hits over 6.2 innings with three walks and three strikeouts.

UC Davis starter Spencer Koopmans (1-9) suffered the loss after allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits over five innings with two walks and three strikeouts.

Five different Aggies each post one hit while UCSB left fielder Joey Epperson paced the Gauchos with a 4-for-4 day at the plate, along with three runs and one RBI. Shortstop Brandon Trinkwon and first baseman Tyler Kuresa each had a game-high two RBIs.

The Gauchos scored single runs in the first, second, third and ninth and posted two runs in both the fifth and the sixth.

UC Davis' lone run of the game came in the bottom of the seventh. After Austin Logan smacked a leadoff double to right center, he scored on a throwing error following Mike Mazzara's pinch-hit grounder to third.

The Aggies' other best chance to score was in the fourth, when they had the bases loaded with just one out. But Nesovic battled back from a 3-0 count to record a strikeout for the second out and forced a ground out to escape the inning.

The Aggies and Gauchos will meet for the finale of the three-game series at 1 p.m. on Saturday. It will be Senior Day for the Aggies, as the careers of Paul Politi, Patrick Hennessey, Ben Burke, Logan and Mazzara will each be recognized prior to the game.
