BAKERSFIELD GAME POSTPONED: Heavy rain and continued expectations of inclement weather have postponed Tuesday's home baseball game with Cal State Bakersfield... The contest was originally scheduled for 2:30 p.m... The game has been rescheduled for May 21 at 2:30 p.m.... The game would have been the first meeting between UC Davis and Cal State Bakersfield in baseball... The Roadrunners added baseball as a varsity sport beginning this season.

FRESNO STATE GAME CANCELLED: The rainy weather has also cancelled Wednesday's game against defending national champion Fresno State... The contest was orginally scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and was to be the first of three games the Bulldogs and Aggies played this season... The two teams will now just meet in a home-away series on March 31 and April 1.... That series opens in Davis at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday and concludes Wednesday in Fresno at 6:05 p.m.... The Bulldogs are currently ranked 24th by the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

ABOUT PORTLAND SERIES: The Pilots play Southern Utah in a three-game series on Monday and Tuesday before hosting UC Davis over the weekend... Prior to that series, the Pilots owned an overall record of 3-3... They opened the season with a 2-1 series win over Utah Valley before dropping a series at BYU, 1-2... Portland has spent a week in Utah, playing BYU in Provo and Southern Utah in Cedar City... Saturday starter Scott Burris has won his first two starts of the season to help lead Portland... He currently leads the club with a 2.08 ERA and 13 innings, and sits second with 10 strikeouts... Bryant Kraus is batting .476 with 10 hits, three doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs to lead the team's offensive charge... Last season the Pilots defeated UC Davis 11-10 at Dobbins Stadium to take their third straight victory over the Aggies... The previous season, Portland won the final two games of a three-game series in Davis... UC Davis turned a triple play in the third game of the series.

HEAD COACH Rex Peters: ON LAST WEEKEND: "Pepperdine is one of those elite, nationally-ranked teams that knows how to win and has good tradition. Anytime you go into a series you always want to win it. When you get to Sunday and you haven't won a game yet you just want to get a win and end it on a positive note. We weren't real competitive in the first couple games, but we got a pretty good start out of Tom (Briner) in the second game on Saturday and got a big hit in the end to pull out the win."
ON FRESNO STATE: "They are the defending national champions and they know how to win games. They'll be athletic and competitive. They'll play hard and we know we'll have our hands full with them. There's no question about that."
ON PORTLAND SERIES: "It's a very tough place to play and they are a tough team to beat up there. We haven't had a lot of success at their place. Hopefully we can turn that around this week. They'll be a competitive club and they'll throw strikes and play hard. It's not an easy place to play. Hopefully weather won't be a factor and we can go up there and play three games."

AGGIES GO 1-3 LAST WEEK: UC Davis dropped its opening game to San Francisco and then lost a series to Pepperdine, 1-2... The Dons earned a 7-1 victory on Tuesday... The Aggies then dropped the opening game of the series to the Waves on Friday, 7-2... Due to expected inclement weather on Sunday, the originally scheduled 1 p.m. game was bumped up to a Saturday doubleheader... Pepperdine rolled to a 10-0 shutout victory in the first game... UC Davis then responded in the final game with a 4-3 victory... IF Grant Hirneise hit a pinch-hit walk-off single to left field to score pinch runner Corbin Cutshaw from third... Cutshaw ran for OF Ryan Scoma, who knocked a pinch-hit single to right field... Cutshaw stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball to set up the game-winning hit from Hirneise.

COMING THROUGH IN THE CLUTCH: Senior IF Grant Hirneise has two game-winning hits for UC Davis this season against ranked opponents... Both hits helped UC Davis salvage series with wins in the final game... His first game-winning hit came at No. 12 UCLA in the 11th inning to give the Aggies an eventual 8-7 victory... On Sunday he hit a pinch-hit walk-off single to lift the Aggies to a 4-3 victory over No. 11 Pepperdine.

TWO-SPORT ATHLETES SHINE: RHP Adam Bennett and OF Corbin Cutshaw are also members of the Aggie water polo and football teams, respectivley... On Sunday, both had a hand in the Aggies' victory... Cutshaw scored the winning run as a pinch runner while Bennett pitched 0.2 innings to pick up the victory.

AGGIES MAKE MOST OF INAUGURAL DIVISION I/BIG WEST SEASON: Led by sixth-year head coach Rex Peters, the Aggie baseball team made a historic run in its inaugural season to win a total of 35 games and earn an at-large berth into the NCAA Division I Regional... The Aggies upset host Stanford in the first game of the regional to become the first UC Davis team to win a D-I playoff game... With the appearance Peters has now guided teams to the playoffs at all three NCAA Divisions, two of which have come with the Aggies (I and II).
