LEADING OFF
• UC Davis continues a five-game homestand, its second-longest of the season before a nine-gamer that began 2013.
• The Aggies are currently second in the Big West in hitting (.305) but are ninth in pitching (5.26 ERA)... 1B/DH Nick Lynch (.429) is fifth among conference hitters that have played at least seven games.
• After pounding out 109 hits over their first nine games, the Aggies have been held to 30 over their last four, batting .231 over that span.
• Defensively, UC Davis has been improving with just seven errors in the last five games... It started the season with 20 errors in the first eight games.
• RHP Evan Wolf has allowed just four earned runs in his last two starts, including giving up just one in five innings on Sunday at Oklahoma State.
• The Aggies' posted a 4-3 come-from-behind win against the Cowboys on Sunday, their first win of the year after trailing heading into the ninth inning.

HEAD COACHES
Matt Vaughn is in his second season as head coach for the Aggies but is in his 21st year with the program overall... The 1992 UC Davis alum pitched for the Aggies from 1989-92, then stayed on as an assistant and associate head coach... Besides serving as the head coach, he is also the pitching coach... Vaughn directed the Aggies to a 27-30 overall record and a 12-12 (5th place) mark in the Big West in 2012... He is 32-35 overall.

Bill Kernen is the only head coach for CSU Bakersfield since it started it started playing baseball in 2009... He has led the Roadrunners to a 105-123 record during his tenure and has notched several notable wins, including a 4-3 win over Fresno State in 2009... It was the first time a first-year program has beaten a defending national champion.

A BRIEF LOOK AT CSU BAKERSFIELD
• The Roadrunners enter the game after dropping a 6-1 matchup to No. 21 UC Irvine on Tuesday.
• Dylan Christensen is hitting .413 to lead the team in hitting and has a team-best 10 RBI's... Tyler Shryock is batting .346 while Oscar Sanay (.325) and Garrett Pierce (.300) are also hitting at least .300.
• As a team, CSU Bakersfield is hitting .282 while holding opponents to a .232 average.
• Among the starting pitcheres, Scott Bratvett has a team-low 1.64 ERA and a 2-0 record... Jonathan Montoya is at 1.64 ERA while Jeff McKenzie is at 2.84.
• Bakersfield enjoyed a five-game winning streak last week, sweeping three games with LIU Brooklyn.
• The third and eighth innings have been particularly productive for the Roadrunners who have scored 17 and 14 runs, respectively, in those two frames.

ALL-TIME AGAINST ROADRUNNERS
• CSUB holds a 6-3 all-time series lead.
• The Aggies took two of three from the Roadrunners last year, winning the first two games 10-6 and 6-5 before dropping the finale 7-4.
• Bakersfield holds a 2-1 series lead in games played at Dobbins Stadium.

FINDING FIRST BASE THE HARD WAY
• UC Davis set a school record last year by getting hit by pitches 100 times and it looks like 2013 isn't letting up too much.
• The Aggies have been hit 24 times in 13 games, a number that is somewhat skewed by the school-record shellacking they took against San Jose State on Feb. 20... That's when Spartan pitchers found various parts of UC Davis players a school-record seven times.
• 1B/DH Nick Lynch and SS Evan Heptig have picked up the most bruises this year, having been plunked four times already... DH Tino Lipson has been hit three times.

AND THEY CALLED IT THE STREAK
• 3B Paul Politi opened the season with a nine-game hitting streak which extended his streak going back to last year to 19 games... He was held hitless in the opener at Oklahoma State.
• C Spencer Brann carries the longest current streak into the week, having hit in five straight... 1B Austin Logan has a three-game streak while OF Seth Batty has hit safely in the past two.

ALL STARTS, ALL THE TIME
• 3B Paul Politi is the only Aggie to start every game so far, all of them at third base.
• 1B/DH Nick Lynch has started in 11 games, split evening between 1B and DH.

GETTING ON BASE
• OF Seth Batty has reached base in six straight games, the longest active streak of any Aggie and just ahead of C Spencer Brann (5) and 1B Austin Logan (5).
• 1B/DH Nick Lynch has the longest streak of the year, having reached in 11 straight.

TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE OPPORTUNITIES
• The Aggies are doing a good job of cashing in runs when the chances permit themselves... They're hitting .340 (51-150) with runners in scoring position but are just .080 (2-25) in their last three games.
• UC Davis enjoyed a high-water game of .538 (14-26) against San Jose State on Feb. 20.
• The Aggies are also hitting .367 (58-150) with two outs including a .524 mark against the Spartans.

ALL-BIG WEST RETURNERS
• UC Davis returns a pair of All-Big West honorees in senior 3B Paul Politi and junior 1B/DH Nick Lynch.
• Politi earned the honor after being the only Aggie to start all 57 games and leading UC Davis in average (.346), hits (79), RBI's (32), doubles (13) and home runs (3).
• Politi brings a 10-game hitting streak into the opener after ending the 2012 season on a tear.
• Lynch made his first season with the Aggies a big one, starting 40 games, primarily from the designated hitter position.
• He hit .302 with a .450 slugging percentage - the latter placing him among the Big West leaders... Lynch also had eight doubles, a triple and four homeruns.
• The Aggies also had two other All-Big West honorees in LHP Anthony Kupbens and C Scott Kalush, both who graduated.

AGGIES PICKED EIGHTH IN PRESEASON POLL
• UC Davis was picked to finish ninth in this year's Big West Preseason Poll conducted among the league's head coaches... The Aggies, who were fifth in the 2012 final standings, were voted ninth in last year's preseason poll.
• Cal State Fullerton received nine first-place votes and was the clear favorite for this season's banner with 99 points while UC Irvine (one first-place vote) was second with 82 points... Long Beach State (75 pts), Cal Poly (68) and UC Santa Barbara (58) round out the top five.
• Big West newcomer Hawai'i (57), UC Riverside (38), Cal State Northridge (34), UC Davis (25) and Pacific (14) occupy the final spots.

PATTERSON MAKES IMMEDIATE IMPACT
• San Joaquin Delta College transfer 2B Steven Patterson hasn't wasted much time making his presence felt with the Aggies... He's already hitting .310, fourth-best on the team, with 13 hits in 42 at-bats while picking up 8 RBI's.
• Patterson's already collected four games with two hits each and has scored seven runs.
• He was a California Community College Baseball Coaches Association All-America selection last season.
