FIRST PITCH: After Mother Nature spoiled its finale in Nebraska on Wednesday, the UC Davis baseball team returns home to open Big West Conference play this weekend, welcoming CSUN in to Dobbins Stadium for a three-game series beginning Friday (March 31) at 2:30 p.m. First pitch for games two and three, scheduled for Saturday (April 1) and Sunday (April 2), are set for 1 p.m. on each day.

IN THE POLLS: Neither UC Davis, nor CSUN, are ranked among the top 25 polls as of March 27. The Matadors were listed among those receiving votes in each of the previous two weeks.

SCOUTING CSUN: The Matadors enter the weekend with a 12-13 overall record, having lost six of their last eight following a series loss on the road at Washington State last weekend… CSUN has three series wins on the season, taking 2-of-3 from both Portland and then-No. 14 Vanderbilt, while taking 3-of-4 from Purdue… Junior infielder Alvaro Rubalcaba leads all regulars with a .295 average, scoring 13 times, slugging three home runs, and driving in 10 on the season, while walking a team-high 12 times… Juniors Kevin Riley and Albee Weiss have combined to hit 10 home runs (five each) and drive in 43 of the team's 113 runs… Friday starter Tei Vanderford is 3-2 on the year with a team-best 1.59 ERA, striking out 32 in 45.1 innings and holding opponents to a .142 average.

SERIES NOTES: According to records that date back to the 1990 season, UC Davis leads the all-time series with CSUN, 23-14, including a 15-12 mark during the program's Division I era… The Matadors, who have won four straight in the series, swept the series with the Aggies last season in Northridge, Calif., by the scores of 5-4, 11-8, and 4-2… The last time the two programs met in Northern California, UC Davis took 2-of-3 from CSUN, winning the first two games by the scores of 5-3 and 10-2… The Aggies are 13-5 against the Matadors at home, posting a series win in five of the six meetings in Davis.

BIG WEST OPENERS: Now in its 10th season as a member of the Big West, UC Davis will open the league slate at home for the second time in the last three seasons and only the fourth time overall… The Aggies are 2-7 in their previous nine conference-opening series (7-20 overall), posting series sweeps over former member Pacific at home in 2008 and at home against UC Riverside in 2015… The Highlanders took 2-of-3 from UC Davis in the Inland Empire to kick-off the league schedule last season… This year marks the first time that the Aggies and CSUN have opened conference play against one another as UC Davis has only faced Pacific (3-3), Cal State Fullerton (0-9), Cal Poly (0-6), and UC Riverside (4-2), in previous league openers.

CONFERENCE CALL: UC Davis is a combined 75-144 in Big West Conference play in its previous nine seasons, finishing as high as fifth during the 2012 campaign and posting a program-best 13 wins during its inaugural season in the league in 2008.

WE'RE READY FOR OUR CLOSE UP: UC Davis' Friday night battle with preseason conference favorite Cal State Fullerton will be broadcast live on the ESPN3 platform the Big West office announced on March 22 -- part of a total package of 11 baseball broadcasts to be showcased.

AGGIES INVADE RALEY FIELD: UC Davis will host Big West Conference rival Cal Poly at Raley Field -- home of the San Francisco Giants' Triple-A affiliate Sacramento River Cats -- in the second game of their three-game series on April 14. After having played the role of the visiting team four times in Causeway rivalry games against Sacramento State at Raley Field, the Aggies will host a game at the ballpark for the first time since 2005, when they welcomed reigning NCAA champion Cal State Fullerton for the opener of a three-game series against the Titans. More information on that game, including season ticket information and details on a special weekend pass for the Cal Poly series that will feature the naming of the playing surface at Dobbins Stadium in honor of Hall of Fame head coach Phil Swimley, is available here: http://www.ucdavisaggies.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/012717aaa.html.

SHORT HOPS…
• Senior Cameron Olson slugged his third home run of the season in the series finale at Creighton on Tuesday, tying him for the team lead with teammate Ryan Anderson and moving him into a tie for sixth in the Big West entering the weekend…
• Olson, now with 12 home runs for his career, is tied for third on the program's Division I list along with Paul Politi (2009-13) and Nick Lynch (2012-15), and is just two back of the record of 14 shared by David Popkins (2009-12) and Kyle Mihaylo (2008-10)…
• Helped along by two doubles and a triple, Olson also ranks third in the league with a .533 slugging percentage…
• Senior catcher Ignacio Diaz just continues to hit, extending his season-best streak to eight consecutive games with two hits on Tuesday at Creighton. Diaz is batting .548 (17-for-31) with three doubles, three runs scored, and five RBI, during his run…
• Diaz's eight-game hitting streak is the longest for an Aggie since Tanner Bily hit in each of the team's final 12 games from May 8-28 of last season…
• Five of Diaz's seven multi-hit games this season have come during his hitting streak -- including a 4-for-4 performance in the opener against UConn on March 10 -- helping him rank seventh in the Big West with a .351 average...
• Junior Alex Aguiar has reached base safely in each of his last eight games -- including via a hit in each of his last six contests and the second four-hit game by an Aggie in the series opener at Creighton, finishing 4-for-5 with two runs and three RBI...
• Sophomore Ryan Anderson's second seven-game hitting streak of the season came to an end in the series finale at Creighton, but the Pleasanton, Calif., native has hit safely in 15 of the team's 18 contests this year…
• Anderson's 11 multi-hit games (all two-hit performances) lead the Aggies, helping him rank fifth in the league with a .361 average and seventh in the conference with a .542 slugging percentage when you throw in his four doubles and three home runs...
• The UC Davis defense has turned a total of 24 double plays in its first 18 games this season (and has turned at least one in 14 of those 18 contests), tied for the top spot in the Big West entering the weekend…
• The 24 doubles plays are also just five shy of the team's total from all of last season when the Aggies "turned two" 29 times in 53 games...
• The four double plays turned in the series finale against Utah Valley on Feb. 26 were a season high and the most since the Aggies had four in a game at UC Santa Barbara on May 2, 2015...
• Eleven different players have stolen at least one base for the Aggies en route to a total of 24 on the season -- standing second in the Big West entering the weekend behind league-leading Long Beach State (29).
