DAVIS, Calif. -- The UC Davis baseball team's mid-week clash with visiting Saint Mary's scheduled for Tuesday afternoon has been postponed due to rain until Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Dobbins Stadium on campus.
Rain is expected to linger in the Davis area throughout the day, clearing to sunny skies by Wednesday morning.
The Aggies enter the contest with a 12-12 overall record after being swept by No. 5 Cal Poly in a three-game series in San Luis Obispo over the weekend. Senior Adam Young, who has reached base safely in each of his last 15 games, leads the team with a .466 average heading into this week's contests, pacing a group of five regulars who are hitting better then .300 on the season.
The Gaels, who handed UC Davis a 5-1 defeat back on Feb. 20 in Moraga, Calif., enter the week at 13-13 overall, having won five of their last six following a series victory over West Coast Conference rival BYU at home last weekend. Sophomore outfielder Anthony Gonsolin leads all regulars with a .352 average, 22 runs scored, six doubles, five triples, and 15 RBI. Sophomore right-hander Jake Valdez was the scheduled starter, sporting a 1-1 record and a 2.57 ERA in eight appearances (six starts) this season.
Following the contest against Saint Mary's, the Aggies will take off for Southern California for a scheduled three-game Big West Conference series at No. 18 Cal State Fullerton beginning Friday (April 4) at 7 p.m. from Goodwin Field.
