FULLERTON, Calif. -- Cal State Fullerton right-hander Connor Seabold struck out 11 in a complete-game shutout, facing just three over the minimum and limiting visiting UC Davis to just three hits en route to a 6-0 victory in the opening game of a three-game Big West Conference series on Friday night at Goodwin Field in Fullerton, Calif.

The Aggies fell to 9-14 overall and 2-2 in league play, getting singles from Ignacio Diaz, Caleb Van Blake, and pinch-hitter Guillermo Salazar. The 10th-ranked Titans improved to 19-10 overall and 3-1 in conference action with the win.

Seabold (3-4) limited UC Davis to only four base runners on the night after Mark Cardinalli drew a walk in the fifth inning in addition to the three hits, allowing only two of those to reach scoring position. He was perfect through 4.1 innings and retired the first 13 hitters he faced before Diaz's infield single with one out in the fifth.

Sophomore left-hander Robert Garcia (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings of work, striking out four. Junior Blake Peters finished out the night, allowing two runs in the eighth on three hits and striking out one over the final 2.1 innings.

Hunter Cullen and Sahid Valenzuela finished with three hits for the Titans, each playing a part in the first two scoring innings for the home team. A bunt single by Valenzuela followed a single by Scott Hurst in the first inning, both moving into scoring position thanks to a passed ball.

After a strikeout, Taylor Bryant laced a double inside the left field line, scoring both runs for a 2-0 lead.

Garcia settled down, stranding five runners over the next four innings until Fullerton struck again in the sixth. A walk to Chris Hudgins was followed by a single by Cullen, and the Titans loaded the bases when Hurst was hit by a pitch, ending the night for Garcia.

Peters was summoned from the bullpen and he battled Valenzuela to a full count before the Fullerton infielder dropped a two-out single into centerfield, scoring a pair for a 4-0 lead.

The score remained that way until the eighth when Zach Weisz and Ruben Cardenas slugged back-to-back one-out home runs to cap the scoring.

UC Davis tried to eke out a run in the ninth as Salazar led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch, and advanced to third on a ground ball for the first out. Seabold, however, nailed down the shutout with a pop up and a strikeout to end the game.

The two teams return to the diamond for game two of the series on Saturday afternoon (April 8) at 1 p.m.

Tickets are still available for the second game of the UC Davis baseball team's series against Cal Poly at Raley Field on April 14 at 6 p.m. Prices are set at $13 for adults, while students can get in on the action for just $5.
