• UC Davis continues Big West Conference play, kicking off an eight-game road trip at UC Riverside... The Aggies and the Highlanders will play a three-game series beginning on Friday.
• Senior lefty Dayne Quist was named the Big West Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday after throwing a three-hit complete game shutout in Saturday's first game against Pacific.
• The Aggies dropped their second straight game on Apr. 17, dropping an 8-5 decision to Sacramento State at Dobbins Stadium.
• UC Riverside has won three of its last five games after defeating UNLV on Apr. 17 and 18... The Highlanders are wrapping up a 12-game homestand which started on Apr. 5 against Long Beach State.

HEAD COACHES
Matt Vaughn was named head coach of the UC Davis baseball team in August 2011 and begins his 20th overall season with Aggie baseball... He pitched for the Aggies from 1989-92, then stayed on as an assistant and associate head coach... Vaughn will also continue his duties as pitching coach.

• Doug Smith enters his eight season with UC Riverside and has compiled a 210-172 overall record... He led the Highlanders to their first-ever Big West Conference Championship in 2007 and a trip to the NCAA Regionals, earning Coach of the Year accolades from the league... He was named head coach after 25 years as the top assistant and hitting coach at UC Riverside, his alma mater.

SCOUTING UC RIVERSIDE
• The Highlanders are wrapping up a 12-game homestand that began on Apr. 5 against Long Beach State... UC Riverside is 4-5 during the most recent stretch of home games and has won three of its last five games.
• David Andriese drove in six runs in a 13-5 win over UNLV on Apr. 18... He owns a .238 batting average.
• Eddie Young is the only Highlander who has started all 30 games... He is batting .327 with 33 hits, 15 runs and 15 RBI.
• Vince Gonzalez is just behind Young offensively with a .324 average... He owns a team-leading 36 hits.
• Eddie Orozco ranks sixth in the Big West with a 2.11 ERA... He has struck out 58 batters, fourth-most in the conference.

QUIST STRIKES AGAIN
• Senior pitcher Dayne Quist was named Big West Co-Pitcher of the Week for the second time this year after another brilliant performance on the mound.
• In the first game on Apr. 14, Quist held Pacific to just three hits in his third complete game and second complete game shutout of the year as UC Davis went on to win 1-0.
• He held a one-hitter through seven innings, giving up a base hit in the second before retiring 13 straight batters and striking out the side in the fifth inning.
• He struck out nine total batters, faced just 29 hitters and used only 106 pitches in the win.
• Quist is holding batters to a .168 batting average, owns a 2.04 ERA and has struck out 64 batters while walking just seven in 2012.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
• After Tuesday's game, UC Davis will head back on the road for eight straight, including two three-game Big West Conference series.
• The road stretch is the longest of the year for the Aggies who are 3-11 when playing away from Davis.
• UC Santa Barbara is the only team in the Big West with a winning road record at 6-5.
• Pacific is just 4-17 while UC Riverside is 4-9 and UC Irvine is just 2-6 on the road.

MAKE `EM EARN IT
• UC Davis has struck out 206 batters while walking just 83 in over 287 innings pitched for a 2.48 strikeout-to-walk ratio... The Aggies rank 42nd nationally.
• The Aggies' weekend starters have just 22 walks between them... Dayne Quist and Tom Briner have each walked just seven batters while Anthony Kupbens has walked eight.
• Quist's 9.14 strikeout-to-walk ratio ranks him eighth nationally.

A WHOLE LOTTA LYNCH
Nick Lynch bat .455 over the last three games, driving in a career-high six runs for UC Davis in Saturday's 9-7 win over Pacific.
• Lynch went 3-for-5 with a double in that game, then went 2-for-4 in the series finale on Sunday... He also drew three walks against Sacramento State on Apr. 17.
• Lynch now owns a .324 average and is the No. 2 hitter for UC Davis.

POLITI WALKS OFF
• Third baseman Paul Politi hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to give UC Davis a 1-0 win over Pacific in game one on Apr. 14.
• Politi's homer joins an impressive list of other walk-off wins for UC Davis, including Seth Batty's 16th-inning RBI single against UC Riverside on May 27, 2011.
• UC Davis won back-to-back games in 2009 in walkoff fashion... Eric Johnson's pinch hit RBI single in the bottom of the ninth against Cal State Northridge resulted in a 6-5 win on May 23, 2009... In the very next game, Kyle Mihaylo hit a walk-off single in the tenth against the Matadors for a 4-3 win on May 24, 2009.

FRESH FACES
• UC Davis' top three hitters are first-year players: freshman Kevin Barker (.338), redshirt freshman Nick Lynch (.324) and redshirt freshman Tino Lipson (.317).
• Barker ranks ninth in the Big West in batting average and his .450 slugging percentage is eighth.
• Lynch owns a .440 on-base percentage, fourth-best in the Big West... He drove in six RBI on Apr. 14 and now owns the team's second-highest total of RBI with 15.
• Lipson is 3-for-5 in stolen bases and both of his hits against Pacific on Apr. 14 were doubles.

• UC Davis will play a single game at San Francisco on Tuesday, Apr. 24 at 2 p.m.
